TheHalc,

Which would inevitably be followed by “Just one more can’t hurt!”…

I hope you’re doing better now.

TheHalc,

“Being yourself” can be somewhat complex, though.

Our concept of self is more fluid than most people realise, and we will often be very different in different social groups. We might not even notice this until those social groups collide. Each version of yourself is no more or less “you” than any other.

I’ve heard that the “hot surfacing old posts” bug is more prevalent on instances that haven’t restarted for a while. It still shouldn’t happen, but I don’t think it’s universal.

TheHalc,

Do you like wearing bright colours?

I remember a local zoo used to have a dolphin show where they’d pull a child around in a small inflatable boat, and I desperately wanted to be chosen for it. My mother helped me pick out the brightest clothes I had that morning, and guess what? I was picked.

That zoo no longer has dolphins. It was not a good environment for them. Well before my time, they even had an Orca - it must have been an utterly miserable existence for it.

TheHalc,

Baba is… Fuck you, you’re stupid, this game is stupid. Fuck you.

I’m stupid 😔

TheHalc,

If you’re going to memorise a deck of cards, you’re better off learning something like the Mnemonica Stack as you can use it as the basis for a whole load of card tricks.

TheHalc,

Galaxy Buds Pro on my commute, Plantronics Voyager 8200 when I’m at my desk (or travelling on the plane).

For TV/games I’ve got a 5.1 sound system, but I will often just chill on my bed watching things from my laptop or playing on my Steam Deck with the built-in speakers.

TheHalc,

I don’t know whether they will help with your issues, but for me they’re much more comfortable and the better seal they provide means I get better sound quality.

TheHalc,

Not really, but are you using your computer’s Bluetooth or the provided dongle, and do you have any apps keeping your mic open? If you use standard Bluetooth on Windows it sometimes gets stuck in duplex mode (the mode for conversations rather than consuming content), and music sounds awful.

They’re good enough for music, but they’re more optimised for online meetings. You’re not going to get a hi-fi experience from them.

TheHalc,

They last way longer than that, although I should probably switch them out more often than I do.

Three pairs can easily last a couple of years if you don’t have grubby ears.

TheHalc,

Not yet, but it looks nice. After replacing the foam cups on my headset I think I still have a year or two left in these.

I’d be happy to evaluate them if Poly sent me a sample, though!

TheHalc,

You live in Finland.

We have military service here because we’re a small country with a large and aggressive neighbour that not only has attacked us within living memory, but is currently demonstrating what it does to neighbouring countries that it thinks it can get away with attacking.

If military service makes sense anywhere…

TheHalc,

This is like saying:

I am not against taxation. I am against MANDATORY taxation. Do you honestly think that giving people a choice is a bad thing?

No-one wants mandatory military service, but it’s necessary for the sake of society as a whole. Maybe one day it won’t be, but clearly that’s just how things are now.

As for choice, you do have a choice and you know it. Civilian service is a thing here.
