Tbh I don’t think humanity was ready for social media. In the past, complete and utter fuckwits would be shamed into silence. Now, they’re all connected to each other, reinforcing their shitty hot takes until they reach a critical mass; attracting other morons like a black hole of idiocy.
Forget technological singularity, we’re rapidly approach a singularity of stupidity. Idiocracy was supposed to be a comedy, not a how-to manual for fucks sake!

I agree. I think people have taken my comment as a defence of the geoblocking, was just offering an example of why someone like a small indie musician may choose to do that. I do find it frustrating when I have to VPN to a different country to watch a video.
But the reason I geoblock one country isn’t to be an arsehole, it’s because Russia has no recourse for indie musicians like myself who have their music stolen. They have no law preventing music theft which is why it’s rampant in that one territory (not saying it doesn’t ever happen elsewhere). Pretty much the entire rest of the world has some sort of avenue where I can issue something like a dmca.
People say this all the time about Spotify, but it’s actually a viable outlet for revenue if you’re on a decent label who understands how to leverage playlists.
Obv that doesn’t apply for freeform… but for styles like trance, techno, DnB etc it’s not unheard of for a track to get 500k streams across a variety of playlists, which equates to $1500.
Got a sample preview of your favorite release?
I don’t think it would be wise to dox myself here after I’ve made an unpopular comment!
I’m happy with my version of simple messenger, I’ve not updated it for a while… Am I good to keep using that? Can you explain more what you mean by selling out?
That’s amazing, thanks for sharing your fail as I feel slightly less dumb now.
One of the best I’ve seen… was working on a track with a one of my writing partners, he’s messaging his gf who’s asking where his washing machine powder is, he replies, but the response makes him sigh deeply. Asked him what’s wrong, he shows me the message, it’s from his gf and says “babe… Do you realise you’re washing your clothes with dishwasher tablets?” 😂
Also my top choice. One of the best scifi series I’ve ever read, I enjoy reading very much but it’s rare that a book gives me such an emotional response. Apart from this it’s only been ‘The Kite Runner’… not scifi, a very very VERY sad, moving book about a boy in Afghanistan.
I didn’t watch it until second season was out, I just didn’t see how they could possibly do it justice… look at how Altered Carbon floundered, I expected (and was proven right) the same problems.
People need to attach to characters and plot. It’s very hard to do that when the characters (or actor in the case of AC) change every chapter, and the plot arches over 10s of 1000s of years!
I have to say once I was able to let go of preconceptions based on the books and just enjoy it for what it is, I really enjoyed Foundation series.
We had a Shannara series! Despite the creative license taken with some characters / the lore (Manu Bennett is an awesome actor but Allanon, the tall rangey ancient wizard? Really?), I was gutted that it got cancelled.
As Arthur C. Clarke famously said: “You have reached the end of your free trial subscription to ArthurCClarkeQuotes.com” “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic”
I’ve never read the books, huge fan of the game series. I love reading, but what’s put me off is Sapkowski’s reputation for being an arsehole. I dunno, I’ve always been a bit resistant to consuming media if I don’t like the creator.
Like, I can enjoy Michael Jackson songs, but if I discovered him today with all the baggage attached I might never have formed an attachment to his music. Think I’ll see if I can find any Witcher books in the library and then if I don’t enjoy, I’ve not wasted any money.
Only got two seasons unfortunately. Maybe if they didn’t do a Witcher and were more faithful to the lore it would’ve picked up all the OG fans: epguides.com/ShannaraChronicles/
This is very sage advice. I mentioned this comment to my dad and we both didn’t take a heartbeat before responding “Definitely not” to the question of if we’d buy it in perfect condition for 100k.
Renovations are really time consuming especially when you have a job, family, etc. And living in a renovation can be exhausting as you have to work around all the fixes until theyre done or at least usable. I speak from experience unfortunately.
Am self employed, single so I guess that’s going for me in this respect. Writing music would be pretty difficult though with drilling and hammering going on through the rest of the house! Thanks for your advice.
The mortgage offer is until Aprl 2024, so there is still 5 or 6 months left. These responses are exactly the kind of experienced advice I was looking for, thanks
Follow your gut and try not to fall for the sunk cost fallacy
Have to say my gut is saying to walk away. Of course it’s me that has to make the decision end of the day, but the responses I’ve gotten here have clarified all the subconscious worries I had and given me a lot more to think about. Much appreciated, glad I made this post.
I’m often told I can be negative with regards to the intentions of others but this definitely crossed my mind. I’ve reiterated many times the importance of the electrics being sorted because I write music, I’ll have ~£15k of equipment in one room and do not want my new home burning down or my kit damaged due to faulty wiring.
Interestingly / worryingly, the electrical cert they handed over at the start of this process hadn’t even been signed (though the company appears to exist).
Am trying to take the attitude of not taking it personally, it’s just business and the seller is trying to maximise what they get for the house… but it’s hard not to feel deceived. They surely must have known there are serious issues and clearly have not priced the house accordingly. It’s frustrating to have to dig out these issues, every buyer is going to pay for a survey and waste money finding out things that should really have been disclosed by the seller.
Apparently in Norway, the seller pays for and provides a survey to all prospective buyers. Seems a much more efficient and fair way of doing things.
It took me a whole week of mucking about and bugtesting just to get the game to run without crashing every couple of minutes. It’s bizarre to me how attached some people seem to be to the idea that the game is up to the standard we expected (not saying you are, but just look at some of the comments that have been downvoted)
Same. I’d have been very disappointed if I paid full price, at £7.99 I don’t feel hard done by. It’s a decent game but Bethesda should be capable of so much better considering the time & money spent on the game.
Just went down the aliexpress rabbit hole again. Theres really everythinf for some of really niche things that i wouldnt ever buy, but some things really do look appealing. I wonder what do you guys use daily thats worth lets say under $20
To add… if you install the DuckDuckGo browser app on your android phone, it will block all the trackers in your other apps!
Fair warning though, you will likely feel a bit of shock & horror to find out just how often you’re being tracked, and what sort of data these apps are sucking down relentlessly and constantly. Even the ones you haven’t used for a while.

What's a sci-fi or fantasy book or series that you want to see adapted as a movie/television series?
I didn’t read this series when I was a kid, but I finally got around to reading Roger Zelazny’s Chronicles of Amber....
