Is it possible to get a virtual credit card for a different country?

I wanted to get my mom YouTube Premium for her birthday but don’t want to pay the ridiculous annual price for my country (especially since she mostly just watches YouTube shorts). She uses an iPhone so trying to get adblocker would be too much of a hassle, especially if it stops working. She won’t be able to figure out how...

TwilightKiddy,

Skill issue.

TwilightKiddy,

Apple products are usually easy to use and hellishly restrictive, preventing the dum-dum user from breaking it. Phones that run under Android allow for much more customization and utility, to the point you can “soft lock” your OS.

Apple is less functional, easy to use, hard to break (software-wise, at least). Android is more functional, though requires skills to get to the functionality and not break anything.

Meaning those with the skills use Android. Thus, skill issue.

TwilightKiddy,

Thunderbird for desktop, K-9 Mail for Android.

Authy Desktop client will be discontinued from August 2024

Twillio just announced they’re discontinuing the Desktop version of their popular Two Factor Authentication client. Their proposed solution is for users to move to the mobile app, which of course doesn’t fulfill the use case of people who explicitly chose Authy because it had a desktop client....

TwilightKiddy,

If by “regular” you mean Keepass 2.0, then there is a plugin for TOTP.

looking for a specific downloader website

hi all, i saw a post (or perhaps it was in the comments) about 1-2 weeks ago of a website to download any youtube/vimeo/instagram/tiktok/whatever video/audio in many different formats. it was a FOSS website. dark background, with maybe red text in places? on mobile, it had tabs on the bottom for video/audio/other....

Librewolf but like... for chromium?

My main browser is Librewolf but I keep a chromium browser just in case. Previously used brave but their flatpak is shit. Ungoogled chromium seems ok but it looks like they don’t change much from upstream chromium. Any good chromium browsers which harden their browsers like librewolf does for more privacy?

TwilightKiddy,

Excuse me? I switched to Manjaro with Xfce about 3 months ago, and if I wasn’t high at the time and remember everything correctly, the default web browser was simply absent. Which is an excellent choice, in my opinion.

TwilightKiddy,

So, it’s default for Cinnamon distribution. That’s like saying Amazon AppStore is default for Android just because some manufacturers install it by default. Consider reading the article before quoting it, please.

TwilightKiddy,

I don’t care about that, you said:

Vivaldi was set as default in Manjaro Linux

And it’s not true.

It was set as default for Cinnamon distribution, which is not even maintained by Manjaro developers, it’s a community managed distribution.

TwilightKiddy, (edited )

You can actually use it without giving it contacts permission, but you’ll have to add people via short links, like wa.me/(number).

Time to ditch #duckduckgo (lemmy.world)

In the last couple of months I have noticed an increasing trend of supplying me search results that are completely unrelated to the current query and tie back to my location or previous searches. I can say this with a high degree of certainty this is without a doubt beyond the 100th instance this has happened....

Ducks are learning to gaslight people. Fascinating.

Where to get Minecraft for Arch Linux from?

Arrrr my fellow pirates. Since I’m very unexperienced with the seas I ask for you guys, where can I get Minecraft from for Arch Linux. It’s not because I’m not willing to pay 20€ but because Microsoft is a giant bitch and I’m not willing to put money in their mouth(especially after they changed their privacy policy).

TwilightKiddy,

As far as I know, Minecraft itself is avaliable for download publicly, you don’t even need to patch it to play. You just need to supply it some fake account data and tell it to work offline.

No official servers support, of course, but that’s about it.

The funny thing is, this mechanism came from Mojang, and at this point they can’t even do anything about it. If they stop providing downloads without an account or implement some anti-piracy features, people will just use the latest official version and mod it. And it may be not even the latest one, there are tons of players on 1.7.10 and 1.12.2, just because modders love them.

Sure, they can try and push their Bedrock version… But nobody is playing on that piece of crap.
