There wasn’t a Windows 9 because a lot of (poorly) written software will do a system check for Windows version and if the first number is “9”, it won’t work and complain that you need to be using a Windows OS newer than Windows 9x (95/98).

It was just for backwards compatibility more than anything.

And was typically used on the poop deck, by sea men.

What search engine do you recommend that isn't Google or Bing?

I’m still trying to de-Google my life, little by little. I don’t trust Bing for similar reasons. DDG is feeling shady of late. What’s the search engine you all recommend that I can inject into my daily life? Is there perhaps a search engine that is focused on code, or have we just all moved on to AI for searching?...

DuckDuckGo is Bing. It’s just stripped of Microsoft “extras”.

So what you are saying is @Fl4pper was in the wrong for having the peripherals before looking to see if they’d work on Linux. Gotcha.

@Fl4pper said it’s not possible to make music on Linux. Then got the response it is possible, and the responder even went further to help them know what they need to use to make music Linux, which is showing them it is possible. Issue is that @Fl4pper complained that he didn’t do the research, and complained that he didn’t want to change his way of doing things and upset that others aren’t changing to accommodate him and his niche needs. Many people make music on Linux, it’s easily done and there are tons of how tos online on how to do it. Fl4pper just didn’t have the right tools and wanted to blame anyone but themselves for not having the right tools.

If you bought a Prius and wanted to do street racing, would you say street racing isn’t possible with cars since your car wasn’t the right tool for it and lash out at anyone else who pointed out it is possible, just with different cars? Same logic.

What's a proper response to another dog attempting to mount your dog multiple times and the owner really not doing anything about it?

The owner kind of makes a weak attempt to seem like they’re trying, but if I weren’t there, they wouldn’t intervene at all. I’m asking because I want to make sure that I don’t over react next time.

Mount their dog, show them what it feels like

All the images in the article are showing that the hand with missing fingers is the left hand. Most people are right handed, so missing a left finger for most people wouldn’t hurt the grip strength of a one handed weapon/tool much in the main (right) hand. You could attach something like a shield strapped to your left arm and wouldn’t notice the issue for hunter gathering then. (Shields aren’t just for defense against claws, they can also be a bashing tool.)

Now, I doubt they were cutting off a pinky finger because they were bored on a Saturday night, but there could have been religious/group beliefs involved. Body modification has been around for a very long time, from as simple of scarification, to tattoos and piercings, to removal of body parts (circumcision), so it isn’t out of the realm of possibilities.

Best Linux Distro for a tablet?

Been wanting to put Linux on my Surface Pro 7, but when i tried it with Ubuntu, it didn’t work as well as I’d like. I used the Surface driver kernel, but Ubuntu wasn’t really good with touch. It couldn’t give a pop up keyboard (only showed up when logging into my account, but never beyond that). Sometimes it wouldn’t...
