Yerbouti,

Install the Flatpack version, easy fix.

Yerbouti,

Nobara (wayland/gnome) + NVIDIA 2080ti, screen and projector dual setup = never add any issues. I’m a noob, came to linux 6 months ago. I’m really curious about why so many people are having problems with Wayland and NVIDIA but my system basically worked out of the box. I guess I was lucky?

Yerbouti,

It does run nicely. Battery life and underperforming GPU are the only things to optimize for me to never use macOS on my M1 pro.

Yerbouti,

The only way to truly experience the Montreal’s subway is through the smell.

Yerbouti,

Yeah MQA felt indeed bit of a weird for a lossy codec. FLAC is a real lossless format that’s been around for a long time, I’m glad they now use it. I like the fact that Tidal can be set to different quality on wi-fi vs phone data. Anyway, Tidal is still a buisness with only profit as a goal, but they give 3 times more to artists. Best way to support artist will always be by going to shows and buying albums and merchs, but most people wants a streaming sevice so IMO Tidal is the best right now. One day maybe Funkwhale or another decentralized option will offer a real revenu model for artists.

Yerbouti,

Tidal’s algorythm is excellent for suggestions and the radio feature works well. I wasn’t sure at first but after a few months of listening to my stuff, Tidal strated to get really good at suggestions. My only issue left is how picky the search engine is Any spelling mistake will get you no results, but I can live with that. I work in studio environnement so getting access to uncompressed master files is huge for me.

Yerbouti,

IDK , Nobara is really stable. The main difference for me was that it comes with all the AV codecs you could need, and a few tweaks for gaming. Saved me a lot of time in the end.

Yerbouti,

DWAC stocks will skyrocket any day now. You should invest.

Yerbouti, (edited )

Ska sucks, the bands are only in it for the bucks. Oi Oi Oi

Yerbouti,

It did and I was quite surprised when I’ve learned that.

Yerbouti,

I have the 8gb model and I cant recommend. Battery life is ridiculously low, it struggle with windows, but got a little better on fedora. Keyboard broke after a year, it was about 90euros to replace Overall it’s really overpriced, you can find better.

Yerbouti,

Weird. I’ve tried about 12 games, they all work perfectly. Only in one case, I had to switch to an x session. Wayland is super responsive, only some small visual glitch from time to time. Da vinci studio edits and render videos super fast.

Yerbouti,

I have an NVIDIA and I dont understand why everyone says its buggy. What kind of problems are people having? I use Nobara for AV work + gaming, it installs the propritary drivers automatically. The few games I’ve tried worked flawless, better then on Windows on the same machine. There’s one game I’ve tried were I had to switch to X11 but all the others works on Wayland.

Yerbouti,

You sound more of a Windows 11 type. Linux is free (free as freedom, not free beer), we dont have to sell you anything.

Yerbouti,

I’ve set my frontpage to be my subscriptions. Firefox addon. No shorts, no bs.

Yerbouti,

I honestly don’t know much about how that works. I’ve just managed to sync outlook emails to Thunderbird with the Exchange protocol or something. I get taken to my organisation page once every two weeks or so, for the 2FA, and everything works just fine. I’ll just play dumb if IT ever ask me question but so far so good.

Yerbouti,

Both scenarios are fine with me. I don’t care if they’re incompetent or just don’t care, as long as I can use my softwares. But I doubt they would have the time to scan every staff’s laptop to see what applications we use. They also said it was mandatory for all the students and teachers to use the stupid 2FA Microsoft app on our phone, but I’ve been using Keepass on desktop without problems (and even shown it to some students). Next step, I’m gonna install Fedora Asahi Remix on the M1 mac they provided me.

Yerbouti,

Well, IMO the real security problem is forcing all the people who want to be part of Montreal’s largest university to give all their personal data to a shitty, delinquent, soulless company like Microsoft. The stupid 2FA application is also a huge discriminating factor, preventing anyone who doesn’t have a compatible phone from studying at our university. But now MS have the phone # of 98% of our community. Did you know that the ms 365 suite has literally been banned from academic institutions in Germany, due to security concerns? On our side, we pay millions every year to this company for dysfunctional services for which free, secure alternatives exist. Universities shouldn’t be on their knees to big business, that’s what I think, and no, I don’t feel any guilt about using secure open-source software.

Yerbouti,

Dude, are you unhappy or something? Or some kind of Microsoft fanboy maybe? Because you have the attitude of 6 yo kid. Adults should usually be able to express themselves without falling into personnal insults.

Are you mad that people want the control of their computers, does that makes you feel irrelevant? Is that why you say things like " This place is full of people like you" (lol)? Flashnews, it’s 2023, everybody uses computers everyday, you’re not special. Maybe you should look at other professions, you don’t seem to enjoy your job.

So yeah, if you can’t have a discussion without behaving like an asshole, take your 10 year experience in whatever and go, nobody cares.

Yerbouti,

+1 for Fedora. I have Nobara on my 2012 mb and it rocks. Nobara is Fedora but with all the codecs and Audio/video stuff preinstalled.

Yerbouti,

But you have to sleep with a watch… That makes it unusable for me.

Yerbouti,

Mark Twain once said · “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.". Unfortunatly, I think we’ve reach a point where discussions is mostly useless. Recently, I had a discussion with someone trying to convince me that most young adults are now trans (lol). I told him I teach at college and Univ level, and have not yet seen a single trans person, over the hundred of young adults I had in my classes. I had to cut the conversation short after 10 minutes of him explaining to me why I’m wrong because he watch dozens of yt video that confirms he is right, even if he never step foot in a university.
