Zerush, to privacy in Review of The Search Engine Kagi
@Zerush@lemmy.ml avatar

For reliable results today it is essential to use several search engines. The one who crawls the web the longest is Google, it is therefore advisable to use search engines that use this engine, such as Whoogle or Startpage.

Even so, it is also necessary to use search engines with alternative engines, such as DDG (Bing), or search engines with several engines, such as Mojeek or MetaGer, which use their own crawlers, such as Groot or AstianGo.

Search engines that use AI are also now proliferating, but, although practical, so far none are truly privacy oriented, with one exception, the one that was the first to use this technique with AI, Andisearch, which uses its own language model, not logs, no ads, no tracking, anonymous.

You search, although more private than others, requires activating privacy in the settings, also questionable due to its other AI functionalities that it incorporates, apart from the registration requirement to use them.

Mozilla clearly send data to Alphabet, googleanalytics and googletabmanager, I don’t believe that this data are only christmas greetings to the sponsor. But I also think and hope, that this will cese if Mozilla finish the contract with Google in 2024 as they say. Mozilla does not deserve to be under Google’s control and there are not many alternatives in the market.Yes, there are a lot of forks of Gecko and also Blink, but mostly with bad maintance, poor support or even contract with the devil, well with surveillance advertisings (Chrome, Edge, Opera (this one the worst)), with shady crypto companies (Brave), or direct filtering data to Gov and security services (Safari). Some exotics wit Qt or Goanna engine (Otter), batteling to survive or are discontinued.(Falcon) As said, Vivaldi and Firefox (or maybe one of the better forks, like Floorp or Midori), there are not much more.I’ve both.

Citizens of the US are really screwed, with a pseudo-democracy where they can only choose between conservatives or fascists, apart from practically half of the population who show that Descartes was wrong, because they exist but they don’t think.

Nothing against experimenting with this chip in Musk’s brain. It’s always good to start with something simple.

Try with Murena, the NextCloud mail (xxxx@e_email direction), it’s maybe less known by these lists.

It is logical that large corporations that base their economy on surveillance advertising hate users who protect their privacy by using all kinds of dirty tricks to bypass or eliminate these protections… Luckily I have had no problems so far with the Proton, Tuta and Murena (NextCloud) emails that I use in the EU.
