It’s fucking awful to lose a friend. I’m so sorry.

I think you’re right about taking a break from social media. It can get exhausting and depressing. So much toxicity, doom, negativity, etc. It can really drag a guy down. (I was going to skip it today as I’ve been in the dumps).

FWIW I have enjoyed the hell out of Discovery. I haven’t had a show hook me that much in a while. Not done binging yet, though. Some people really do like to rag on stuff. I think life is better when one focuses on the positive instead of always trying to pick shit apart. And it’s better for others to let them enjoy what they enjoy.

I’m sure any of us would be glad to give you “cover fire” anytime. I know I’m not alone in saying you’ve been a positive energy for Lemmy.

Anyway…yeah, things will feel better in a few days. People out there care, k? Peace.

I’m right there with ya. Discovery won me over big-time. I am going to start season 3 in a bit.

I am re-watching Voyager at the same time. Kind of drifted from Trek around Voyager season 4 for reasons (nothing to do with trek itself). Yeah Voyager is a hell of a show. Lots of great episodes. It’s great to see all the ones I missed and can’t wait to see how they get back (no spoilers!!)

I’ve now picked up DS9 again where I left off a couple years ago. Season 5. Looking forward to finding out what I missed back in the day.

I’m back to Trek because of SNW. Seriously that show reminded me why I love Star Trek so much. I will likely rewatch it soon.

Nope. Not at all. I can’t wait for more.

Discovery … I still can’t believe what they did to the Klingons and I have other issues but… goddamnit that show won me over in spite of itself. Will start season 3 in a while. And I liked the first two seasons of Picard I don’t care what anyone says.

I might be alone in saying all that, idk lol

Since none chimed in (in the past 6 minutes) , I, an idiot, will share what I think I know. When reconstructing the faces of people from a skull, either with clay or software, they model the various tissues–muscles, fat, skin, etc according to models based on samples. How they would do this for a creature that isn’t very like any current living creature I don’t know. It is probably educated guesswork?

I just read an article on this process for a neanderthal and in that particular instance they used data from humans since I guess it was close enough.

But, for example (referencing a recent meme) how do they know spinosaur had a sail and not a hump back and neck muscles like a buffalo?? Seriously though I’m sure they can tell which bones have attachment points, how much force they can withstand, etc.

There’s always Hudson Gardens.

I guess $15 isn’t given how much there is to see.

Great choice! Glad you’re having fun and let us know if we can help at any point.

I stuck with Mint for about a decade but switched to Nobara for gfx drivers. Now that Mint is on a newer kernel I’m seriously thinking of going back because my current distro is just not as stable as Mint was. And I like Cinnamon better than Gnome. I miss my Mint.

It doesn’t help that the whole curriculum was designed by a coke snorting hyper-workaholic.

The whole idea of 12 hour shifts for any critical function, let alone medical personnel, of all people, is batshit insane. The idea of people working off of no sleep and total exhaustion where the slightest mistake kills someone…?? And what “work-life balance?” Seems like medical folks aren’t allowed to have that.

For whatever reason I usually get pain in my fingers not wrist. And usually only when gaming for a long time. Pretty sure I move my whole arm when using a mouse. Maybe that’s why?

I will never use a trackball outside of Centipede.

Hm. Maybe I need to dig into the Wikipedia sources then because something is amiss here.

According to wiki.archlinux.org/title/wayland

Wayland is a display server protocol. It is aimed to become the successor of the X Window System. You can find a comparison between Wayland and Xorg on Wikipedia.

Videos of unrelated things constantly popping up when someone is talking in the game. Your inventory blurs out half the items because your character forgot they had them. All text is intermixed with other text representing random thoughts. Quests disappear or reprioritize randomly. The character refuses to move due to lack of motivation.

It is nowhere near necessary to reinstall the OS to fix anything… at least for Mint and Raspbian which are the two I’ve used over the last decade. I may have done an upgrade on mint a few times. Otherwise it chugged on merrily.

PS: now that I think about it I’ve never reinstalled windows on my old laptop either. I like to find the root cause of problems and fix them rather than giving up and reinstalling… call me crazy?

Lol this is amazing. Oddly enough I was interspersing a couple of Columbo episodes in between Trek last week.
