akilou,

No

akilou,

Oooo good call. Thanks.

akilou,

Same, I have a handful of streaming services (mostly split with other households) because it’s easier to watch something right now than in 10 mins at the absolute minimum, or tomorrow, depending on the current status of high seas shipping lanes. But I’m not fucking watching ads. I’m paying for the service, fuck your ads.

I just wish they’d split off streaming from shipping.

akilou,

But it’s not complely free shipping. It’s $140/year free shipping. So depending on how often you need something tomorrow, you could come out ahead even without Prime. That’s what I’m weighing now. Streaming is close to a solved problem, it’s the shipping I’m on the fence about.

akilou,

I have some room to optimize my torrenting setup but it’ll never be as good as watching the trailer for a show and immediately with one button push, watching the show itself. I mean, fiddling on my phone and waiting 10 mins is the best it’s gonna get, but that’s still better than going over to my always-on, old laptop whose only job it is to torrent, finding the one I want, waiting for it to download, then moving it over to my Plex server.

akilou,

Is there a Google tv app?

akilou,

It wouldn’t be so bad if you could buy and actually own

akilou,

play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.unicorn…

I’m gonna hold off switching for as long as possible. This looks like it’s not even close to PlexAmp. I mostly use artist stations and the DJ features. This just looks like it only plays albums or manual playlist.

akilou,

Does Jellyfin have a PlexAmp equivalent?

Pi-Hole or something else for network ad blocking?

I’ve been aware of pi-hole for a while now, but never bothered with it because I do most web browsing on a laptop where browser extensions like uBlock origin are good enough. However, with multiple streaming services starting to insert adds into my paid subscriptions, I’m looking to upgrade to a network blocker that will...

akilou,

You should definitely set up pihole but I don’t think it’ll block ads on streaming apps unless I’m wrong and someone can point me to something that explains how I can set that up.

Is there a sponsor block situation for Podcasts?

I’m happy to adopt a new podcast app if it has sponsorblock natively or through a plug-in. Otherwise let me know if there’s some other way to make it work. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work as all of the segments tagged for skipping are crowdsourced which would also work for Podcasts.

akilou,

I have pihole and I still get ads when I stream from home

akilou,

This is not a solution. It’s like when there are too many ads on a site, stop using the site instead of just using an adblocker. Eventually I won’t be able to listen to any podcasts with this “solution”.

akilou,

This is exactly what I do now. But skipping ahead and back is tough when I’m listening while cooking and have raw chicken on my hands.

akilou,

Sponsorblock does this with just regular I, not AI. E.G. crowdsourcing the sponsored segments

akilou,

But every ad on every episode of every podcast can be different. Right now with pocket cast, I skip ahead 30 seconds at a time then go back 10 seconds. But I’d rather automate it

akilou,

Of course! That’s when the engine is going to over heat. If you’re hot, they’re hot

akilou,

Completely agree. Plus, with a wife, who has time for Playstation anyway

akilou,

We don’t need a theory, the answer is because of the chicken tax and the CAFE light truck loophole.

(I did not read the article)

akilou,

Use an alias either through Proton, simple login (which Proton bought), or Mozilla

akilou,

People are literally amputating their own limbs on this corner. I don’t think a ball scratch is gonna be a big deal
