Do they forbid sharing the content, or do they forbid sharing the torrents? If it's just the torrents, you can just create a public torrent with a different piece size and cross seed.
The newbie blues for each private tracker are a definite thing, but once you get past that it's great. It also depends on which trackers you're on: the general trackers tend to have similar content as publics, but it's the specialty and niche trackers where privates really shine.
When the whole Reddit fiasco started happening, I saw a lot of people wiping and deleting their Reddit accounts and moving elsewhere, like here on Lemmy....
14 years, 17 accounts, ~2000000 karma. Nuked everything: deleted comments and submissions, de-modded myself, unsubbed from everything, gilded various protest content using the coins I'd been given over the years, bought a cool Apollo app t-shirt, walked out and walked away. Nope, don't miss it; I'm exploring kbin and tildes, and getting my meme content from imgur. Which is ironic in a way, because the sole reason imgur was created was because reddit refused to allow native images.
Are you having regrets? It's okay to have regrets.
My current account participated in some long-tail mental health support, some of my comments and posts get responded to months/years later thanking me for help. I am not so petty that I would remove content that may actual help someone.
reddit started trialing a "Community Points" program in 2019 in /r/ethtrader, /r/cryptocurrency and /r/fortnite , where posters and commenters could earn "Community Points" that were supposedly backed up with crypto that you could eventually cash out. They announced an expansion of the program in December 2021 but, afaik, they never actually did so. Which might have something to do with the fact that one of the /r/cryptocurrency mods made $10,000 by selling community points. I don't know if the program has actively continued since then; maybe someone who was in the three trial communities can say.
My point is that reddit has been working on something similar to this program for at least five years now. And this article isn't based on any announcement by reddit, but by someone examining their source code. It's possible that this code has been present for a while and reddit has leaked it's existence to try to attract back some of their lost contributors. Or even that it hasn't been present but they included the old code in the newest app release and then pointed it out for the same reason.
In any case, this article isn't based on any official announcement, and reddit has been "trialing" a similar program for over four years. I wouldn't hold out any hope that this actually sees daylight anytime soon, or that it'll work well if it's actually released.
I’m using my mp3 player to listen to albums. I’ve been using this site to download my music but it has no track number data. So I have to write that myslef manually. If there’s a a program that can download albums for my that’ll be great. Ideally I’d want it to do mp3’s at 320kbps....
Have you tried freedb? It's had the majority of albums I've needed to tag, even stuff like female blues artists of the 1920's. I tagged and renamed the files on about 300 albums in a couple hours, so for me, yeah, it was a manual process but it was still quicker and easier than searching for and re-downloading a similar number of albums. But you do you - it's your music!
A few questions to people who have struggled long-term with fatigue, exhaustion, insomnia, etc.: what do you do to keep awake for a full-time workday? When I was working three jobs, I'd go take a nap in my car instead of eating lunch; a thirty-minute nap kept me going for the rest of my shift. I'd have a granola bar for lunch while walking to/from the car.
Hello everyone, I’m tired of having to go bavk to my search results 4 timesnbecause eveyrtime that I search for a news article every single website I get on won’t let mr read it without either subscribing/logging in, how can I hidethese websites from the results OR How do you guys look up news articles, an app or smt?...
Part of the glacier melts, but the water is held back by ice and rock. Eventually the ice dam breaks or the earth next to it erodes, and you have an outburst.
And this is why, if you're proposing in a way where there's even the slightest chance the ring will get lost, you use a fake cheap ring for the video and then carefully hand over the real ring.
I've been a newbie on a bunch of private trackers, and there's almost always some way to get ratio, you just need to figure out that site's method, and be patient in not-downloading-everything until you can afford it.
For example, like many sites, what.cd generally had freeleeches around the site birthday and the winter holidays: nothing you downloaded counted against you, and whatever you uploaded got added to your account. They also often had artist freeleeches when an artist died; if What was around today, the site would be going wild with Jimmy Buffett traffic. Other sites have bonus points, where you get points for seeding even if no one downloads from you; and then you turn in your points for upload credit. Still other places, you can cross-seed content to get past the newbie ratio restrictions, then move on from there.
It is incredibly frustrating to be new on a site that has a whole bunch of content that you want, but if you're patient or you figure out how the site does things, you can get a lot out of them.
I have a friend who says to never update anything in a room until you're prepared to update the entire room. Because that new area rug will make the walls look bad and the new paint makes the drapes look old and the new surroundings make the furniture look old, lol!
What's a sci-fi or fantasy book or series that you want to see adapted as a movie/television series?
I didn’t read this series when I was a kid, but I finally got around to reading Roger Zelazny’s Chronicles of Amber....
Do you prefer private or public trackers?
As I get more and more invites to private trackers, I’m finding that I find myself spending more and more time on public tracker websites....
