As a ~20 year vim user, and by no means a proficient power user (any time I end up in recording mode, I just mash ESC repeatedly until this start behaving normally again.), I think it’s just “it’s easier for someone that doesn’t know how to use it to learn, than it is for everyone that already knows how to use it to relearn”.

Like the damn scroll options on laptop trackpads. Multitouch scroll down = scroll down. Then someone decided it needed to match the way phone scrolling works after smartphones became popular, so now there’s lots of scroll down = scroll up software behavior. But the options are still there to behave neither way. If you don’t like the vim commands, you’re free to install something that behaves in a way that you expect. If you do like vim commands, install it and get the behavior that users have come to expect for the last 20+ years.

If you can remember this, you can remember how to save and quit

bitwaba, to memes in How could the EU do this??

Because some of the people there really wouldn’t like that.

You measure salt with a teaspoon.

You measure garlic with your heart.

“cooking is an art, baking is a science”.

Bullshit. They’re both chemistry. Baking has a lot less wiggle room, and cooking has a lot more backup plans for when you mess up. Both require skill to be good at.

Here’s a really crazy thing that we do: have Mac & cheese made by someone other than Kraft. It actually is exceptional.

  • Roux: flour + oil/butter
  • Bechamel: milk + roux
  • Mornay sauce: cheese + bechamel

I disagree with you, but that’s because your comment means something entirely different to me.

But that’s Scientology?

What do you think about the event when about Buzz Aldrin punched a moonlanding denier in the face after they called him a coward, liar, and a thief?

Genuinely curious. I know I can’t know for certain - I cant go back in time and ride on that rocket with them. But the guy that supposedly went there seems pretty convinced he did. Even if I did believe it was faked, I’d have a hard time believing he didn’t think he went.

I believe one of the theories for a multiverse is that Inflation never ended, it is just a continually ongoing process in which out universe “bubbled” out of it. Other universes would have bubbled up too, and we “should” be able to see evidence of collisions between those other bubbles and our own bubble in the CMB, which there has been a little bit of success in finding.
