blanketswithsmallpox,

I’ve been looking for this image for what feels like years lol. Ty.

blanketswithsmallpox,

The joys of working soft Security and numerous other manufacturing or niche jobs.

Unfortunately there’s only so much you can teach though a SOP without hands on. Almost every job I’ve ever had had been like this.

The practical job knowledge you get from college is negligible in most blue AND white collar jobs sans Tradeschool.

blanketswithsmallpox,

Ignored lessons for lazy partners and roommates.

blanketswithsmallpox, (edited )

Ah yes because butches and the like are famously accepted by their family and peers and never subjected to sexual harassment that tries to “fix” them

… That’s not what the meme is about. The meme is about being aggressively in your face about your fashion choice lol.

blanketswithsmallpox,

You won’t make it to 80 with pizzas that large and regular lol.

blanketswithsmallpox, (edited )

Was about to say. It should be ‘Committing war crimes’ and ‘Also a victim’ lol.

Having 1,200 of your countrymen slaughtered through terrorist violence makes you a victim. It doesn’t give carte blanche to annihilate everything in your path for vengeance though.

blanketswithsmallpox, (edited )

You could quit doom scrolling and learn that the vast majority of everything is and WILL be fixed given a long enough timeline. Humanity has proven over and over that the vast majority of us are good people just wanting to live our lives happily. There are always great people doing great things behind the scenes that never generate as many clicks as OMG KILLINGS OMG THREATEN NUKES OMG OTHERS!

Lets start you off with the easy recommendation. Kurzgesagt Overpopulation and how it’s bullshit:

blanketswithsmallpox,

Glad to hear it. I can’t wait for the pendulum swing for Doomerism to stop and start going the other direction. It is easy content though.

blanketswithsmallpox,

Hard disagree. Being an optimistic doesn’t mean rejecting reality.

blanketswithsmallpox, (edited )

It sounds like you’re just needlessly fearful to me. What you’re saying has nothing to do with optimism and trust in the innate good nature of humanity to plod along despite all the shit it throws at itself.

blanketswithsmallpox, (edited )

I don’t even need to believe it’s the opposite, it’s scientifically sound.

Optimism does FAR MORE than doomerism. Doomerism leads to complacency, and there’s been numerous studies that back up Learned Helplessness. You believe doomerism begets action, when it’s the opposite.

Learned helplessness is literally a political propaganda tactic used by large nations against the west specifically due to it’s innate properties. The more likely you are to believe something is inevitable, the less likely someone does something about it. This isn’t the Bystander Effect lmfao.

Learned Optimism has significant health, familial, and societal benefits. Conscious gratitude, thankfulness, and other similar positive coping mechanisms that were borne from CBT are being used in every profession where you see the worst of humanity on a daily basis.

I do get what you’re saying, but the Bystander Effect doesn’t even work at those scales of economy. Not only that but the Bystander Effect is a very learned cultural phenomena. It even mentions as much in the article you linked. Sorry if you didn’t catch my edits ex posto facto since I was sourcing after but I did end up mentioning it in anticipation of that rebuttal when editing lol.

The root difference here isn’t the finer details though. It’s probably going to end up in an agree to disagree sentiment.

I firmly and vehemently deny that trusting in the goodness of humanity to work on and solve issues that many people don’t even think about isn’t rejecting reality.

You believe it is. It’s literally just the difference between a jaded cynic and a hopeful optimist. Behind every jaded cynic there usually was the later. I just hope you get there again and do see the beauty in the world around you and have faith in your fellows while knowing ALMOST EVERYONE is doing their small part. Some much larger than others.

Generally the people who don’t help were never going to anyway. I believe that’s a fools errand that requires far more effort than any benefit gained from it.

blanketswithsmallpox,

Then why did you come here with a 6 pack of wine coolers and condoms in your pocket?

blanketswithsmallpox,

I hate the taste of low effort propaganda in the morning.

blanketswithsmallpox,

… Tor is just a modified Firefox though lmfao.

blanketswithsmallpox,

This man speaks truth. Take it from someone who used to work at local Crisis Intervention center.

That’s beside my entire native side of the family being a bunch of scummy abusive addicts who admittedly knew how to party.

Watching people die yearly in your twenties while the others who made it through slowly wither away on random Facebook updates people share with me gets sad/old quick.

blanketswithsmallpox,

GET OUT OF YOUR ROOM AND EAT.

IF YOU DECIDE TO NOT EAT WITH EVERYONE, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN DISHES.

YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO EAT JUST AN ENTIRE HEAD OF LETTUCE FOR DINNER.

YOU CANNOT EAT DRY RAMEN WITH NO SEASONING FOR DINNER.

YOU CANNOT EAT JUST GREEN BEANS FOR DINNER.

YOU CANNOT SKIP DINNER THEN EAT NOTHING BUT JUNK FOOD AT MIDNIGHT WHEN EVERYONE GOES TO BED.

Repeated ad nauseum for half a decade.

If you’re a poor fart like me who has children who like to spend way too much time using up the hot water doing said things…

showersavingtimer.com/products/showerwizard-1

The price made up for itself in 3 months in my house lol.

The wife hated me when I got it too, but at least I don’t have paint bubbling walls anymore and they aren’t taking $1 showers every day twice a day. Don’t forget to turn off your bathroom fan to get it extra warm and humid then close the door after getting out and still not turn it on…

Being able to shit in the nice toilet is a nice side bonus so people aren’t hogging the good bathroom for an hour at a time.

Check your state’s website for free LED bulbs, shower heads, air sealing, even furnaces if you’re low income.

It’s because they get distracted like above or just use it to ‘relax’.

Tubs really need to be larger so people can lay in them. Even then, it still takes about 15 gallons of hot water to submerge someone. If I ever get even marginally richer, it’ll be one of the first things I do. A properly sized tub you can lay down in. Making your knees hurt from having to stay bent or having your entire torso stick out of the water sucks.

People shit on Shower bath shower, but Faye had the first 2/3s right. Get the quick gross shit off, plug the drain. Let it fill while you shower then fill the rest if need be. The water will stay hot longer and you can actually lay back and relax.

Edit: The main thing is people feel like they use less water when they shower. But it does nothing when you stay in that long. Seeing a tub full of water is way more visceral. I just invite people to plug the tub next time you start showering and see how much you actually use up in those 30 minutes.

Most low flow shower heads are 2.5 gallons per minute. It’ll only take about 15 minutes to fill your tub enough to submerge yourself.

Meanwhile women also like their showers at roughly the temperature of the surface of the sun to scrub away all that self imagined sin and yuck so it’s like 3:1 gallons hot to cold vs 2:1 for normal people.

I never got as bad as wanting to not be alive but a couple panic attacks made me suck it up and get the wheels rolling on seeing a Psych and getting meds. ADHD since childhood didn’t help but the meds sure as fuck do. It sucks that you see what you’re supposed to be doing but our social safety nets sucks so much, especially as adults, that you can’t use them.

Finding insurance and a stable job can go a long way. Without them, it can be tough out of pocket. Finding the right combo of meds was what I knew I needed and ended up doing exactly what I needed them to. God damn they’re expensive though. Mostly the stimulants and anti-drinking pills (Naltrexone FTW!) though.

Edit: Honestly just being tired all the time, especially in the mornings, was one of the worst parts. My depression showing up as numbness was handy as a Stoic, but life is better when you feel shit appropriately.

Kinda rambling, but keep on keeping on.
