failed to install Debian Woody and SUSE in early naughts – finally succeeded with a Stage 1 Gentoo install (yay for me?) – a long sabbatical from Linux, back into the groove with Pop!_OS for a while, and recently replaced with Debian stable (successfully this time ;p ) – getting old enough that “bleeding edge” doesn’t hold any appeal any more, “boring” is far more interesting
“not the greatest at gaming” is still perfectly fine – the main argument against Debian stable (at least for gamers) is that, since Debian’s focus is on stability, they’re not riding the bleeding edge of updates and features
the main issue with snaps is (generally) not the snaps themselves or the snap daemon, it’s that the Snap Store itself is closed source
a combination of rampant enshittification of online platforms, losing faith in Canonical’s direction, and lack of transparency into ranking/promotion/filtering of apps in the Snap Store (there’s already been a few claims that they’ve replaced an already installed native app with a snap package 🤷 )
as you said, Lemmy is a link aggregator – you post your original content to Pixelfed or Peertube or Funkwhale or Pleroma or Mastodon or a dozen other services and post the link to Lemmy with “[OC]” in the title as @can said
