The Danes refer to it as “hygge” and the Norwegians refer to it as “köselig”. Get cozy. Tell your boss that you died. Binge some TNG. Preferably with your rabbit and tiger friends.

Based on current polling, Trump will wind in a landslide. People are fucking stupid.

In London, Ontario, the city gave the transit commission $350M to spend on a new transit overhaul called Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). It was the best plan possible for our city as our streets are too narrow to accommodate light rail and we sit on swampland at a low altitude above sea level which prevents a subway from being built. All the commission had to do was pour concrete for new bus pads and widen a couple of streets to add in a dedicated bus lane.

They blew half the money on consultations, construction fuck ups, and removal of fuck ups in 2022. They never finished BRT, bought themselves a brand new HQ at a cost of $120M, and now in 2023, they’re saying they’re $175M overbudget on BRT.

No one in our city is talking about this.

dangblingus, to piracy in Premier League Targets Dozens of Illegal Streaming Sites in U.S. Court

Sports is the final frontier for piracy. Live events, blackouts, and the general shadiness of pirate sports streaming sites make for one hell of a challenge. If sports content providers could just provide an all-in-one streaming solution at a fair price, it would definitely solve the “service problem” aspect of pirating sports.

Popular apps like Spotify and Netflix absolutely have a list of known VPN IP addresses. They might not know where you actually are, but they know you’re using a VPN.

I don’t understand, out of all of the things that we teach students in schools, out of all of the things that people don’t demand justification for learning, why Maths gets all of the flak. It’s the foundation on which the universe exists. If people don’t understand that they’re not just learning trigonometry “just cuz” then they probably don’t have much of a career in STEM planned for themselves. Which is fine, but western society’s blindspot for STEM is 100% attributed to the intentional undermining and dumbing-down of the education system.

We regularly don’t give students justification for why they learn grammar, biology, chemistry, physics, visual art, and music. But as soon as you show someone a standard polynomial, they lose their fucking minds.

dangblingus, to privacy in I don't have anything to hide, so I don't care

Even though you’re completely right, there are 2 issues.

Most people are status quo adherents. The threat, even a real threat, of a totalitarian dictatorship take over of their country won’t ever be perceived as credible because in their mind “it’s just not possible” (at least in western nations). Second issue is that most people don’t understand, even in a post-Snowden world, what surveillance is actively being performed on them. A percent of a percent of smart phone users are even aware of what PRISM is, and most people don’t understand how that information can be weaponized against them.

Getting people to care about privacy means educating people on how computers work. But we’re about 40 to 50 years too late for that.

He’s not an organic tech reviewer. All of his devices are sponsored. He exists in a completely different world than the vast majority of his audience. Money is not an object for him and he promotes always having day 1 tech. He essentially shills for whomever is giving him today’s device to review and he’s been very pro-Apple in his editorializing.
