Is it actually dangerous to run Firefox as root?

I have a few Linux servers at home that I regularly remote into in order to manage, usually logged into KDE Plasma as root. Usually they just have several command line windows and a file manager open (I personally just find it more convenient to use the command line from a remote desktop instead of directly SSH-ing into the...

dbx12,

Without any judgement: why are your servers running X11? Just because you dislike SSH’ing to them?

dbx12,

Hmm, I see. The perfectionist in me would want to shed that processor load though ^^

dbx12,

If you have the iso image, you can write it with the command dd to your stick / sdcard

The hell happened to the feet in the second panel?

I made it to Linux! What is your must-have FOSS or Free Software for linux?

Thank you so much, comrades! I am feeling pretty comfortable with linux mint, and now would like some suggestions for some absolutely necessary FOSS or free license software for the OS. So far I have the standard, Firefox, ThunderBird, LibreOffice, yada yada. Thank you again to everyone on the linux comm! sankara-salute

dbx12,

I like how it is cheaper to buy it upfront. Like they can load an extra bag or two full of internet if they know you need it.

dbx12,

Lol, Browser the cat did not just only win the right to stay but even out lived the guy trying to get Browser removed from the library. The council man passed away in 2022 and Browser is still happy and alive in 2023 (according to Reddit at least). Staying alive out of spite, that is definitely a cat.

dbx12,

Your basic theory of “app developer wants me to like the app” is flawed. They don’t want you to like the app, just to watch as much ads as possible. And since they get more money if you click the ad, the X has to be extra small. But they cannot remove the X since guidelines say they have to provide a way to close the ad without interacting with it.

dbx12,

The stalebot is most times useless. The only scenario where I can see use of it is a maintainer waiting for the reporter to add information. But closing issues because no maintainer checked on them? That’s garbage and discourages bug reports.

dbx12,

absolute galaxy brain moment

dbx12,

And half of them are “curated list of X”
