I have taken the form least alarming to you as you’d run screaming if I manifest in my true form.

Switching to Debian on my gaming pc

Hello everyone - I have been wanting to ditch windows on my gaming pc for a while now, and since I have recently finished a large project, I now have the free time to switch. I am relatively comfortable with Debian having used it for a while on my web server as well as school laptop, but I am concerned about using it on my...

Last time I tried this myself I could play a lot, but never the ones I wanted and ended up switching back anyway. Ever since I’ve just always been running a linux and a windows PC, each to its best use.

I must stress however this experience of mine was over a decade ago and I have heard there’s been a lot of improvement on the subject, with steamdeck becoming a thing and alike, so I have no up-to-date experience in what runs and what doesn’t anymore. What I cán tell you however is that whichever Windows-only game did play (using Wine back then, dunno how it’s done these days) always played at least 2-5x better than on the actual Windows it was made for. 😅

So good luck and I would love some information as to your eventual result!

You assume this malicious code is lame enough not to gain root itself with a modified su.

doctorn,
@doctorn@r.nf avatar

Yeah, well, as you said: it’s probably fixed by now, but I used to have a universal su that would work on any armv7 linux (so basically every phone back then, but also on my armv7 little laptop I had at the time…) with which I was able to easily root any phone by putting it in /data/local and making it bootable, then using full path to move any Android root files in place (though I did also just copy that su itself to /system/bin for root on cheaper phones sometimes, which is just playing with fire as it basically makes any root action unseen and allowed. 😂). That did work for years though, but that’s probably cause Android minimizes the linux and never actually updated the kernel so much, and the laptop’s flashed OS was something altered with also very little updates. And ARM was still quite new to the public too. 🤷‍♂️

I remember I came across it in the rooting package for my Kindle Fire and only found out it could do that by accident,… 😅 It couldn’t change user, though, it had only 1 use without parameters, which resulted as if you do a ‘sudo su’ if you remove the sudo password-requirement.

Hence why I used the example. I wasn’t being limitative to it, though. There’s so many things that could screw you if it has a vulnerability, if it happens I very much doubt it’ll be through nano, though.

Any attack is usually non-intended vulnarabilities. Same argument applies to any software, like nano, if it can open doors to your system.

Recycling isn’t forever either, though…

I could be wrong, but I read somewhere you can only recycle plastic twice before it becomes unmanageable, and after recycling for over a decade we’ve currently reached the last stage of recycled plastic made of already recycled-before plastic, which would then mean that all those twice recycled plastics going around as drink bottles and alike now have reverted back to their original state and problem: They are back to being non-recycleable waste. 😅

I can do that and like I said, I never paid nothing. I didn’t hoard, but as a longtime player you got stronger. So it’s not pay to win, it’s still play to win…

No offense, but your conclussion doesn’t fit your description. You’re angry you can’t win against someone that you say might have been hoarding stuff (or is maybe doing the work for getting it daily as I used to do…) I could literally bring down Level 8’s since I was Level 5, and they stood no chance if I had been scavanging with Ingress all day first and they didn’t, yet catch me after one of those as a second player and you might win easily until I restock… That’s gameplay, not paygame. 😅

And the fact any player on his own can only max build level 5 portals and you need 3 other people at level 8 at least to make a Level 8 portal kinda stops pay to play. On your own you stand no chance against a group… So if your entire city is just 1 guy, the portals can’t be over level 5, if they are he has help.

Either way, when you attack portals, you should go stand on the Resonators, not the center of them, and when placing resonators you need to be as far as your circle allows you to stand from the portal, so they spread further apart and aren’t as easily destroyed by someone bursting in 1 spot.

What's the deal with the private trackers?

I’ve read on reddit I think that if you are torrenting using a private tracker you’re gonna be fine even without VPN. The question is: isn’t the tracker is just a server that leads my torrent client to the pieces of the file on the seeders? And the connection between me and the seeders is p2p, isn’t that type of...

doctorn,
@doctorn@r.nf avatar

Yeah, I have a 4G CGNAT router, so I’m not only constantly hopping IP’s, I’m even sharing outside IPs with others simultaneously. I rarely see other torrents than mine, though it does happen. I honestly also had the bad content flag once for a file I certainly wouldn’t download. 😅

doctorn,
@doctorn@r.nf avatar

I dunno, my torrents are never corrupted or missing either abd download full speed for free. I see everything I want minutes after it airs, with FileBot sutomatically sorting everything for free all I need to do is open Kodi on my AndroidTV and select what I want to watch…

I see no need or afvantage of changing that to anything that costs me money to get the exact same result… 🤷‍♂️

I think it’s just peopke that did pay justifying themselves to themselves after the fact. There is no real advantage at all…

doctorn,
@doctorn@r.nf avatar

Sure, but with free alternative s in piracy, then paying for it again (however little) is taking steps direction streamingservices…

Why would one pay for pirated stuff (to people that didn’t even do any effort in creating the content or even in doing the pirating, nb), while it’s also freely available through different means that are just as easy and capable of being automated? 🤔

Anyway, the above is not arguing , the above is a genuine question.

Should have posted that chain-text to my Facebook wall years ago so my profile would be blue and safe…

Please forgive me,… I failed you all… 😭

Ngl, every time I go look for it out of need I totally expect it to be long gone. I might physically look at it every time I open my wallet, but it became so much part of the ‘background’ that I never actually see it at those times. 😅

doctorn,
@doctorn@r.nf avatar

More like 7 years of occasional surprise it’s still there. 😅😂

doctorn,
@doctorn@r.nf avatar

Yeah, I’ve even been known to move my phone (off of a junk-basket, nb) to check if my phone wasn’t under it… Took me way too long before I realized that… Kinda reminds me of this: 😅

What exactly about these are not ok for kids, though? 🤔 I don’t see any problem here…

Yeah, breastfeeding is only for adults… 😅😂

Not a global opinion here as many hardcore linux users will stand by Arch or Mint, but I always have preferred Debian. It’s what Ubuntu is based on, so it uses apt(itude), yet it’s not prebloated Ubuntu and much more true to adaptation and unedited software than Ubuntu has become… But in the end it’s more personal choice and taste, so usually requires a bunch of failed attempts to get one that fits, as every linux can basically do the same things, yet on some or other slightly different way… 😜

Forgot to mention that, but indeed, Sid works pretty well…

This meme gave me funny feelings in my pants… 😶

😂 Seriously though, nice pic, but not the place and sad about the (what I can only assume is an) ad-forwarder link or whatever… I used to boldly check them out anyway, but I’ve learned not to the hard way by now. 😅

A misconception about microwaves is that they need around 1000W to actually do something, anything lower than 800 makes the waves completely ineffective. When you turn your microwave to 500W, what it actually does is lie to you while microwaving only half of the time instead by cycling on and off. You can usually hear this change in the sound it makes cause it will switch between the 1kW and the ventilator. 🙂
