Unfortunately everyone has a limit for how much work they’d like to put in.

What's the point of buying new phones every years?

Other than your carrier give it for free or cheap, I don’t really see the reason why should you buy new phone. I’ve been using Redmi Note 9 for past 3 years and recently got my had on Poco F5. I don’t see the point of my ‘upgrade’. I sold it and come back to my Note 9. Gaming? Most of them are p2w or microtransaction...

…huh, i wish i knew that earlier. I’m gonna search for it now.

I used to do that, but it was a chore to keep monitoring my battery life. I wish there were a “charge phone to 80% and stop” option.

I mean, most of the population isn’t buying a new phone every year, it’s just that there are enough people using phones in general that at any given time there are people buying new models. It’s the same reason why there are people buying cars every year.

I personally use my phones for about 3 years. Sometimes up to 4, but usually year 3-4 is when the battery degradation gets so horribly bad and performance stutters so much that I figure if I’m going to do a full reset and buy a new battery and all that, I might as well get a new phone.

some people think that “the customer is always right” isn’t the slogan of a long-dead department store, but rather it’s an actual call the cops law

I used to play this RTS called Dune 2000 i think. It was my first ever RTS and it was mindblowing.

Income inequality would be lower in my ideal world. The income distribution should be more like the 50’s. A 4 day work week, and eradication of this “central business district” idea. There can still be offices for some people, but offices can be more geographically dispersed, with different sectors in different areas so half the city isn’t trying to get to one spot in the mornings, or leave that one spot in the evenings.

Have you had any bad experiences with people on Lemmy?

I was recently talking to some friends about Lemmy and the whole Fediverse idea, as it seemed like a really cool part of the Internet. As I was talking about it, though, I realized how unusually friendly this whole place is, and I joked that I “surprisingly haven’t found any bigotry.”...

I feel like the amount of more challenging or unwanted behaviour has gone up just in the time I’ve been here

I see that too, but I attribute that to the growing number of users here. It’s an unavoidable part of growth, sadly.

plot twist: she was stalking you all along

"Unless the house is on fire or you are hurt, do not interrupt me on the phone!"

Hi everyone, this is a small but hopefully enjoyable bit of MC from my childhood. Way back when, my Dad worked in IT and worked from home. This is back in the early days of telecommuting and so most of his day was spent on calls in between actual technical stuff. The internet was in its infancy, so if he was working he really...

Cute, and I’m glad you and your dad had such a good relationship that he took it well!

In my city a food truck can’t park within view or 100ft of a restaurant.

Doesn’t that mean literally no food trucks along Main Street or wherever all the shops are?

Don't follow the manual, follow what I say!

I used to work the evening/night shift at a coffee shop chain. That time of night in inherently slow, so we would get saddled with the general upkeep of the equipment. Nothing too high tech, just simple disassemble, clean, re-assemble (coffee grounds get into EVERYTHING). I took a shining to the task because I’m fairly handy...

You manager forgot the most important rule: when your employee actually knows what they are doing, LET THEM DO THEIR JOB.

My bad, i totally forgot. Thanks for reminding me - i’ll delete the old one!

Once you get enough answers here, you could do a ranked-choice poll on which question is most suitable for a ranked-choice poll too!

You were providing feedback for free and they didn’t like that? That’s so weird.
