Jellyfin + Synology NAS was a great investment for me! ;)

Wouldn’t go back.

My understanding is that the email is encrypted still so… they hand over the encrypted data which might be useless.

@ebits21@lemmy.ca avatar

Glad I already migrated to using KeepassXC on the desktop for TOTP codes, partially out of frustration trying to use the Authy Linux desktop client.

And hey, now I own my data!

ebits21, (edited ) to asklemmy in What password manager do you recommend?
@ebits21@lemmy.ca avatar

There’s only two real choices imo.

Bitwarden or Keepass (KeePassXC for desktop, you’ll need one of many app choices for your phone).

Keepass you would sync to your own cloud provider and use a key file for protection.

Bitwarden is the obvious answer that fits all your criteria.

ebits21, to privacy in How to backup 2FA
@ebits21@lemmy.ca avatar

Personally I recommend just using KeePassXC and a KeePass app (I use KeePassium on iPhone).

You always have access to all your data that way. No company is monitoring you. A lot of apps make it very difficult to backup!

My totp database is in the cloud for syncing but needs a key file I don’t keep in the cloud (and a password). My passwords are entirely separate.

I’d also suggest Tailscale, it’s how I access my Synology away from home.

I’ve setup wireguard before but… Tailscale is so damn easy. And no need to open ports!

The nice thing about Jellyfin is that you can point Jellyfin and Plex to the same media folders and both will work, to try it out.

I would get a Synology with intel Quicksync if you go the Synology route for hardware transcoding. Unfortunately, a lot of the new models don’t have it.

I just have a 220+ but would maybe get a 4 bay model if I did it again.

Any solution that holds both together… is not really a 2fa solution imo.
