echodot,

I’m assuming it’s like the Nintendo switch USBC lead which technically is standard but doesn’t really work to charge anything else. but at least you can use normal USBC leads to charge the switch so it’s not too bad.

echodot,

When has any election in Russia been free since 2000 when he took power?

Secret service agents moments after the 1981 assassination attempt of Ronald Reagan. (lemmy.world)

Excerpt: On this day in 1981, President Ronald Reagan was shot in the chest at the side entrance of the Washington Hilton on Connecticut Avenue by John Hinckley Jr. Reagan was walking to his limousine after a speech to AFL-CIO leaders when Hinckley, 25, who was standing among a group of reporters, fired six shots, hitting Reagan...

echodot,

I kind of feel like it was chosen for the cool factor. Because there’s no way in the hell that a professional would look at all of the weapons they had on offer and choose that one.

echodot,

The other thing that never seems to get taken into account is that most of the NRA membership wouldn’t be able to hit the broad side of a barn if it weren’t for the fact that the barn was stationary and not firing back.

They think that proficiency at the shooting range is the same thing as proficiency in combat.

echodot,

They are doing one though. Which also confuses me as well

echodot,

I’m just gonna submit pictures of him and Cameron. See how they like it.

echodot,

Personally I have no idea what everyone is talking about, but I assume they made a chicken and are in the shape of a T-Rex because of course they are.

echodot,

I don’t imagine it would be a major problem though maybe it would let them get one or two easy meals but predators don’t hunt unless they’re hungry. So once they’ve taken down one prey animal they’ll ignore the rest. On a species level it’s probably not a major issue.

As opposed to roads which will kill lots of animals.

I think it’s somehow related to the prohibition era. Perhaps alcohol was under the jurisdiction of narcotics?

It’s odd that above doesn’t know it, I thought its definition was well known and would have had no qualms about using it, I wonder if it’s a regional word now?

echodot,

Not a boring kid, but a pirate kid sounds fun.

echodot,

Unless it’s snow obviously. I suppose that might have been actually replicated.

The creepy ghost that haunts the old lemonade factory turned out to be Barkley.

Obviously he’s dressed up as a giant spider

Hollywood to UK Govt: Investigating Pirates "Increasingly Difficult" * TorrentFreak (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

Summary: A recent UK government inquiry into the challenges faced by the film and high-end television industry has recently received submissions from major Hollywood studios advocating for KYC (know your customer) rules for hosting providers, similar to banking regulations to identify money laundering. If adopted, this would...

echodot,

I host in Iceland and they practically pay you to use their service it’s so cheap.

echodot,

People don’t really realise that tone of voice is hard to convey in text.

You have to pick your market with sarcasm on the internet, it either has to be super obvious or it has to be in a context in which people are expecting sarcasm.

Also there’s always going to be someone who actually thinks along the lines of a sarcastic comment, and it’s always difficult to tell whether or not they actually think that’s the case.

echodot, (edited )

If you have enough capacity to power 10 you can’t replicate an 11th because that would mean that you would have more replicators than you had capacity.

echodot,

It kind of works though because it’s a prequel to things like TOS and TNG. We’ve already seen those shows, so we know they’re basically wondering around what will become their own backyard in a couple of hundred years. There really isn’t that much that’s dangerous there. Mostly it’s about interpersonal situations and meeting new species for the first time.

It would be fine if Archer wasn’t such a dumbass.

echodot,

I don’t think I’ve ever seen combat in Star Trek that takes place over a distance of more than a couple of hundred kilometres.

What’s the range on a phaser or a torpedo, can it even go that far.

Long range weapons are so rare in Star Trek that when they do turn up they’re basically what the whole episode is about.

echodot,

Anyway don’t worry about it because commander Sisco has normal pips, and he’s worse than any of them.

echodot,

I think Lemmy just compressors images that are in the comments in a way it doesn’t do for posts. It’s really weird and kind of broken behaviour. You are probably better off hosting it somewhere and then just linking to the host.

echodot,

I think a lot of the pushback that he’s getting from it is mostly to do with the level of snobbery that it was said with.

It’s incorrect anyway, because by what metric are movies judged other than revenue? He might as well have said that book adaptations don’t count either because they’re not original works.

It’s just a bizarre thing to have commented on, what was the point? If he makes a movie and it’s good, and it’s not as if he’s bitter because he’s made plenty of good movies, people will watch it. There was no reason to have a go at Marvel. If you want crap superhero movies look at DC stuff.

echodot,

I’d put on my tiny shorts and stand in front of the view screen waving a chequered flag.

echodot,

It’s so obviously satire. I wonder about people like you. Inability to detect satire is a sign of sociopathic tendencies.

echodot,

People always complain that no one ever reads the article.

Well this guy read the article but didn’t engage his brain at any point in the process, which is almost worse.

New to plex.....sometimes it loses track of my TV show?

Finally got back into sailing the high seas and, first thing i did after getting plex set up was get parks and rec since ive missed it so bad after it left netflix. Its great so far but occasionally it loses track of what ive watched and picks up in the middle of like 9 episodes back?...

echodot,

You want it to work all of the time, well, frankly that’s just unreasonable

Unfortunately Plex is just kind of crap like that.

One time it decided that it only had episode 6 series 4 of bones, and none of the others even though they were sat right there in the file system, I could play them and everything from Windows. How did it manage that, no idea.

When it does stuff like that you just have to resync your library and eventually it’ll actually do it and start working again.
