finestnothing, (edited ) to memes in It's just a coffee

The only subscriptions I am willing to pay for:

Phone bill - no choice
Internet bill - no choice
Insurance - no choice
World of Warcraft - sue me
Costco membership - worth it
VPN - worth it

I don’t pay for any others. Paid for lifetime Plex for the convenience of not needing to pay for a website domain like I would for jellyfin, and self host my own music, tv, and movies

finestnothing, to comicstrips in Poor JC can’t even get delivery

I guess it’s a good thing Jesus’s birthday was probably sometime between June and October and Christmas is just another pagan holiday

finestnothing, to linux in Some of y'all need to see this and drop the superiority complex...

Windows 98 has entered the chat.

finestnothing, to piracy in Anyone know a good source for woodworking plans?

Step 1: multiply all inches by 2.54 on the plans and not mess up or miss any of them
Step 2: have fun cutting on fun cm decimals like 6 inches = 15.24 cm

finestnothing, to piracy in Usenet communities?

I’ve been using nzbgeek for a few months and have a friend that’s used it for a few years, no complaints and pretty cheap

finestnothing, to linuxmemes in I love vim

Wait til he learns about doom emacs which is emacs + vim keybinds (and a lot of other QOL features)

Emacs is a great OS with a bad editor
Vim is a great editor with a bad OS

finestnothing, to science_memes in "Wow, she must really like maths."

Yep, sqrt(-1) = i. Powers of i are actually really neat imo since they form a loop: i^0 = 1
i^1 = i
i^2 = -1
i^3 (or i^2 x i or -1 x i) = -i
Now the loop starts:
i^4 = i^2 x i^2 = 1 x 1 = 1
i^5 = i^4 x i^1 = 1 x i = i
etc
Any evaluation of i to the power k boils down to i^(k%4). For example, i^726 = i^2 = -1. I know this was super useful in calc 1 or 2 and not used for any of my other math classes, it’s just a fun concept to me

finestnothing, to privacyguides in I just acquired a new PC

Throw Linux on it or reinstall windows if you don’t want to learn Linux. I assume it’s a new PC, but you never know what may be on there regardless. A new install with a complete overwrite is the way to go imo.

For Linux, it personally use arch (btw) and love it but it’s not super beginner friendly. I’ve heard good things about Linux mint for beginners so that may be a good place to start

Can confirm, I told my wife that I’m a pussy and she just said that I’m also an ass

finestnothing, to piracy in Where can I find audiobooks?

As a note, their application process is super easy, free, and they do it every weekend. Not paid or super exclusive, just makes sure you read the rules basically

finestnothing, to piracy in Is there a Universal Playlist which is privacy friendly?

Sounds like a radio station where there community submits songs

finestnothing, to linux in Happy new year of the Linux Desktop!

What are you even going on about? Proprietary Nvidia graphics drivers updates are released at basically the same time as the windows version, and amd has always worked flawlessly. I have 2 2k 144hz monitors with HDR and both work and look just as good on Linux as on Windows.

The only issues with high dpi monitors is that some apps don’t both detecting the monitor dpi and need to be adjusted manually… but there are very few that that is still an issue for, and windows has the same problem because it’s an app problem not an OS problem

finestnothing, (edited ) to linuxmemes in Yeah, very sorry that this app is Windows only, would love to switch to Mac

So far black desert online is the only game that I’ve wanted to play that I can’t on Linux (eac is awful). I know there are others, but it’s mainly fps games that bother with windows-only eac and I don’t play fps games all that much. Battlebit is probably the only fps I’ve been playing in the past few months, and they use/will be using a linux-compatible eac version which I’m jazzed about

finestnothing, to privacy in Plex starts narcing on its own users' anime and X-rated habits with an opt-out service, and it's going terribly

I picked Plex mainly because the lifetime sub wasn’t bad, and the features and polished interface were worth it. If Plex adds too many garbage/bloat features or removes useful features then I’ll jump ship to jellyfin immediately. Same boat for paying for bitwarden vs self hosting vaultwarden

finestnothing, to piracy in Favourite FOSS Torrenting Client for Linux that has a VPN killswitch?

Like the other comments, I use qbittorrent. I recommend running your VPN with gluetun and routing the traffic from your qbittorrent container through it. If the gluetun container is down, no traffic at all. If it’s up, everything goes through the vpn
