Don’t know about his linguistic work. As much as I can gather, even if not 100% correct he was hugely influential in linguistics. This is a how (good) science usually works. Someone postulates a theory which tries to explain a thing, and is then proven and/or disproven. If well done it stays important even if disproven.
However his politics? It’s a barely coherent mess with only one basic postulate - “America bad”. Anything that US does is automatically bad. Anything that any enemy of US does is automatically good. Turns out to be correct sometimes but there is no true moral and philosophical underpinning to it. He build his political career on the “even a broken clock is right twice a day” principle.
Like why is it so hard for them? The underlying settings database doesn’t have to change, only the UI. Unless it’s all so messed up nobody dares touch it.
This seems like a big change only because YouTube/content creators are such a new phenomenon. Makes sense to change tracks after doing the same thing for a while. Or retire if you get filthy rich. It’s a natural cycle, only this time in a new environment.
Tom Scott has been doing the same thing for 10 years. Hell I can barely do the same job for 2 years without getting bored out of my mind.
There’s a suspicious lack of “hot and sunny Christmas” imagery in the media.
Australians and South Americans - where are all the sunny Christmas on the beach movies ??
Took me years to stop obsessing about “what could have been”…
In hindsight, punishing myself did way more harm than missing the actual opportunity. I could have recovered quickly … which leads into another cycle of obsessing about the other missed opportunities
The entire plan would be a comedy of errors if people weren’t killed. Or an action thriller. Or both actually.
A couple of naive youngsters dreaming of political freedom swayed by a manipulative schemer to kill a guy who wasn’t really responsible for anything.
Plan failing completely because nobody in the group was even close to competent, until a driver took the wrong turn.
