glasgitarrewelt,

Calling a bunch of people ‘dickriders’ is just as toxic as the Linus-message. Do what you want, but you are not an inch better than Linus.

But yes, the mail is toxic and unacceptable.

glasgitarrewelt,

If only there was a way for you to get your point accross, without insulting others.

glasgitarrewelt,

I can only assume, that these downvotes are meant as a not so smart joke.

glasgitarrewelt,

My father printed the GNU license 100 times, rolled it up and gave me a good beating with it. The only true way to learn about the four freedoms.

glasgitarrewelt,

However to expect things to just be done for us out of the kindness of people’s hearts I think is bordering on entitled.

Yes, there are people who do that, but there are many more people in the FOSS world who don’t expect anything and instead contribute.

Focusing on the entitled people won’t make you happy, reagardless the topic.

glasgitarrewelt,

We could call it Plasma/Linux or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, Plasma plus Linux.

Time to ditch #duckduckgo (lemmy.world)

In the last couple of months I have noticed an increasing trend of supplying me search results that are completely unrelated to the current query and tie back to my location or previous searches. I can say this with a high degree of certainty this is without a doubt beyond the 100th instance this has happened....

glasgitarrewelt,

What was the problem with Docker? I want to host it myself, the docker option seems to be the easiest one.

glasgitarrewelt,

Nano is only helpfull because of this nifty little info bar at the bottom… No one can actually remember nano-shortcuts.

glasgitarrewelt,

Have you tried the instructions on their github page?

https://github.com/swaywm/sway/wiki#keyboard-layout

I haven’t tried that, but would be happy about a feedback from you if it works. So that I know what to do if I switch from Herbstluft to Sway one day.

2in1's or tablet recs. for linux please.

Hi, lets talk about 2in1 laptops and tablets. Which ones are the best for running linux on them, which ones are your favorites right now, what do you like using them for, etc. I find myself really missing having a 2in1 sometimes, especially for the portability aspects of them....

glasgitarrewelt,

Did you use the linux-surface-kernel? This project is awesome for getting as many functions of a surface running as possible. There are lots of useful information and tipps for every surface model too.

glasgitarrewelt,

I am using input by a pen a lot, to draw in my PDFs. It seems like Starlite doesn’t support that? I hope I am wrong, this is a major reason for 2-in-1s, isn’t it.

glasgitarrewelt,

Nice!

glasgitarrewelt,

Still a privacy nightmare, with and without ads.

glasgitarrewelt, (edited )

And I have no intention of living off the technological grid to mitigate that.

I would argue that you are already living off the technology grid. Before starting my FOSS journey, every software I used was a dull ‘Just click here and let the algorithm do it’s job’. By beeing conscious about the software I am using now, I accidently found a lot of joy in technical things, feeling a lot more ‘on’ the technological grid than before.

Can you elaborate on what doomsday scenario you’re referring to?

I am not the commenter above, but my greatest fear with all those data hungry companies is the control and power we give to not elected entities. Knowing all about every person in a state and knowing how to use this data for targeted ads, targeted video recommendations, targeted search results,…, could make a difference in elections and law making. It is basically undermining democracy, and I am a big fan of real democracy.

Linux on a 2in1 for Uni (lemmy.world)

Hello linix@lemmy, I got fixed on the idea of replacing my iPad with a 2in1 like the thibkpad X13 for uni since I use the keyboard with my iPad a lot. The only time I need to take handwritten notes is in chemistry, mathematics and to annotate PDFs. Does anyone here have experience with convertibles running Linux? What would be...

glasgitarrewelt,

Drawing with tikz in real time would be a baller move!

glasgitarrewelt,

I bought a Microsoft Surface Book 2 when I wasn’t converted yet. BUT: now it kind of rules. There is a custom Linux Kernel for Surface devices, everything except the camera works now. That means especially: attach and detach the screen from the Keyboard and use the pen with all it’s features.

I wouldn’t buy a surface device now, because I don’t want to support Microsoft. But if you find a Book 2 for cheap, this would be a possible solution to your search.

glasgitarrewelt,

Firstly, (assuming self-hosting isnt an option) won’t you have to use google or AWS to host your website?

It makes me very sad, that there are many people who believe that the internet comes down to Google, Amazon and Facebook.
