governorkeagan, to linux in Zorin OS 17 Has Arrived

Not necessarily, it depends on the demographic of the user. I highly doubt that my grandparents would decide to switch this “eyesore of a layout”.

I agree that some will switch, but definitely not everyone.

I’ve got it on my fiancées laptop. She doesn’t use it very often though. It’s a decent enough experience

governorkeagan, to linux in Super weird error, what's happening?

Have you tried booting in with a live usb? You might be able to do some sort of recovery from there.

Having said, I’m still very much a Linux noob.

governorkeagan, (edited ) to linux in [SOLVED] Davinci Resolve Plugin Issue on Nobara

I just checked on Pop!_OS to see what version I’m running there because I know everything works fine. harfbuzz isn’t even installed…

When I’m finished work later today I’ll have a look on Nobara for the version installed cs expected etc.

EDIT: I solved the issue.I came across a similar issue on the GitHub repo for harfbuzz and while reading the log file again I had an ah-ha moment. More details in the post.

Thank you!

I ran an update after installing Nobara from the welcome page thing. I also ran a dnf update later.

I’ll have a deeper dive tomorrow and try figure out what package has libharfbuzz. Any tips on how to do this effectively?

Resolve is an interesting case since they only officially support 3 distros. They have a .run file which installs the application. resolve on linux

governorkeagan, to linux in 2 years on GNU/Linux - a retrospective attempt

Reading this is making me want to try Arch on my second drive just so I can say “I use Arch btw” lol

governorkeagan, to linux in As a normal, boring user that does nothing special other than browse the internet and the occasional "casual coding" -- what am I supposed to do with 32GiB of ram?

It’s great for multitasking without slowing down any other programs you may be running at the same time.

Depending on what sort of programming you are doing, you might use more of the RAM than “normal”.

governorkeagan, to linux in USB webcam lagging only in Zoom?

Have you tried the Zoom web app? They have a link on their site where you can join a meeting in your browser to test if your webcam/mic work correctly

governorkeagan, to linux in Make a Linux App

I’d been playing with the idea of building a Linux app. I used Post Haste on Windows to help me organise footage but haven’t found a substitute on Linux yet.

governorkeagan, to linux in Is linux good for someone tech illererate.

+1 for Pop!_OS, it’s not given me any issues at all! Zorin OS, looks really good as well, especially if you want a more Windows (visually) experience

governorkeagan, to linux in (solved) I can't get my linux system to run properly

I’ve seen other comments suggest possibly trying a different distro, if that is the case I’d highly recommend Pop!_OS. They have an Nvidia specific ISO that works brilliantly, I’ve not had any issues with it.

governorkeagan, to linux in (solved) I can't get my linux system to run properly

OP is running on bare metal. They used the VM for testing and have now moved on from that

governorkeagan, to linux in (solved) I can't get my linux system to run properly

Is it only on YouTube? Have you tried another browser or watching a video locally?

governorkeagan, to linux in The Distro Wars are good actually.?

I think it’s a double edged sword.

On the one side, you can see it as bringing more attention to Linux and allowing a broader audience to find Linux.

On the flip side, the threads about which distro is best can get very toxic.

governorkeagan, to privacyguides in Anytype as an alternative to Notion or Obsidian

I came across it a little while back (after watching a Linux Experiment video) but haven’t gotten into it yet.
