Thanks for the update, but this breaks rule #1 - it’s not a question and the community is Ask Lemmy. We can leave this up for a few hours so that there’s a central place to chat.

Have you had any bad experiences with people on Lemmy?

I was recently talking to some friends about Lemmy and the whole Fediverse idea, as it seemed like a really cool part of the Internet. As I was talking about it, though, I realized how unusually friendly this whole place is, and I joked that I “surprisingly haven’t found any bigotry.”...

lots of them fly under the radar of admins that aren’t the targets of their bigotry

General note: as a mod and admin who may not know what to look for, please flag these posts and comments so that we can review.

This is a question that would makes me feel out of my depth as a moderator. My first thought would be to see if there’s a community where I could fnid help in how to handle this appropriately.

See the sidebar - it’s not perfect, but it’s there. The most recent post I can find is from two weeks ago so leaving this one up.

 It works on my machine - i.e. I tested it on the web ui, not in each individual app.

I feel like /c/memes has taught us a valuable lesson today: Would it make sense to develop a feature to block a comm from our feed for a selectable unit of time (1 hour, 1 day, etc.)?

Even if we’re subscribed to them? Could a temp block exist in conjunction with a subscription? I love c/memes but holy shit no matter which sort I select by they’ve managed to overwhelm my feed.

Fair enough, let’s see where it goes.

OP, I’m thinking this sounds an awful lot like a support question, because it’s about using Lemmy and Lemmy functionality. See rule #3 in the sidebar. You posted so you probably already have an opinion - why does this question belong in this community?

I’m asking because it seems borderline and I don’t want to remove it purely due to interpretation.

hsl,
@hsl@wayfarershaven.eu avatar

I don’t follow. The rules for this community clearly state that it isn’t meant for support. There are plenty of other communities that are focused on support. Why should people subscribed to this community be expected to answer support questions if they don’t want to? That’s the whole point of different communities with different rules.

As noted, please check the sidebar for good places to ask support questions like this.

This is a support question related to how to use Lemmy. Please see the sidebar for communities which offer support.

There is no real question here, removing per rule 1.

How to make subscribed feed more diversed?

Hi guys, I’m on lemmy since the reddit api announcement and am subscribed to tens of communities. When I’m setting my feed to watch topics only from Subscribed communities (hot/active), I see a lot of topics from the same communities, like 10 topics in a row from 1 community then 3 from a different one and again from the...

Peacemaker intro: Do you wanna taste it? by Wigwam

I know it’s an old thread but it’s a good question.

This was asked a week or two ago, please check out the previous post. Removing under rule #4.

Feel free to report this stuff, too - it’ll get it on our radar faster.

This is a support question and as such is against rule #3. Please check the sidebar for suggestions on communities that would be a better fit.

Per rule #3, we don’t offer support in this community - please check the sidebar for a list of communities that can help you out with this question.

It’s being enforced - mods just occasionally need sleep.

Lemmy apps don't appear to work well with Lemmy.world

When I started using Lemmy I joined Lemmy.world and downloaded several Lemmy apps, to find one I liked. After a short while, the apps seemingly became incompatible with Lemmy.world and refuse to display the communities I’d joined, or show any content on the main page of the app if I selected Subscribed rather than Local or...

I very much appreciate the sentiment, thank you!

We have a number of suggestions for communities that welcome support questions in our sidebar.

With that said, we do already have a post outlining why support questions don’t belong in this community: lemmy.ml/post/1223478

Because this isn’t an open question, I will remove it now.

We actually do have a similar post that is pinned - however, it doesn’t federate to all instances correctly due to a known issue.

This is more of a support question given that it’s around how to access Lemmy. Please see the sidebar for suggested communities.
