SAD light location and use for programmers?

It’s been a grey winter, and looking to stay that way. I work remote, so I was thinking of getting an SAD light. But I remember from years ago when I had one (and worked in an office) that if I put it next to my monitor it gave me a headache and made my monitor hard to see. Those of you using SAD lights, where do you put them,...

Just a word of caution for anyone with bipolar, using it for longer than recommended can trigger mania.

The transition from the holiday season back to the normal drudgery is so depressing. Is there any way to make Jan / Feb less depressing?

like, it’s still dark at 5pm, there are barely any sports on, still bitterly cold and austere and it hurts to go outside, but you’re not even looking forward to christmas or the new year. the new year is here, and it’s largely the same as last year. except you’re getting older.

You can also get a light box/mood lamp. They help produce vitamin D and alleviate seasonal depression.

So many times this. I love my light box. It keeps me sane.

That’s a fair point, they should consider people with allergies.

I’m honestly not sure, I’ve heard that camels spit at you. I’m sure these llamas are trained to not be assholes.

That’s really cool, did you see the birds?

Have you checked out crochet!crochet? They seem pretty active. And if you ever get into knitting, there is !knitting. I’m so excited for you, I know that feeling when you are thinking of a big project, and it’s starting to become reality!

Noice! I’m subbed to both, and I will be on the lookout for your blanket in a year!

Oh, how much I relate to this comment. I am also super excited for you to make a temperature blanket! Please show it off when it’s finished - what crochet community are you a part of?

Hey, I found this documentary on beavers that won several awards, so I figured I’d share in case you want to watch it with your daughter.

You got it! I use Voyager too, great app.

I know, it looks like the exact same link. So weird.

I once went camping by myself (I’m a woman), and I thought someone was about to break into my tent to murder me. Nope, it was a beaver dragging branches nearby at night. Haven’t gone camping by myself since.

The 1990 remake of the Night of the Living Dead. I was like 10 when I saw it, and then I had to walk through a dark forest alone to get home (I was supposed to walk with older girls but they left me behind). I legitimately thought I was going to die.

I miss it too. There is lemmy.world/c/cptsd@lemmy.ml

It’s not as active, of course, but that will come with time. The best thing you can do is help build the community.
