When a lemmy instance federates, does it connect to one big lemmy network, or can there be multiple disconnected, yet locally federated instances? What I’d like to know is, can I simply join any Lemmy server and choose “All” to view everything Lemmy has to offer, or is there still hidden content?...
Like the title states looking for E2EE apps (Android and iOS) without going into much details or needs to be robust enough and easy to use for anyone and stable for operations that are susceptible to constant electronic warfare. I did some research and thought about replacing Signal with Molly and wondering if it will still work...
I’m quoting the page that I linked from privacyguides warning
These messengers do not have Forward Secrecy, and while they fulfill certain needs that our previous recommendations may not, we do not recommend them for long-term or sensitive communications. Any key compromise among message recipients would affect the confidentiality of all past communications.
Based on privacyguides suggestion page itself, SimpleX chat would be the next in line you can try.
Briar is only for Android AFAIK. Matrix/Element does offer E2EE chat/vid but, based on the page, it’s not recommended for long term sensitive use.
Regardless, with the current situation against encryption, any app that stays will be subject to similar conundrum about leaving/abiding the law like Signal. The ones abiding may need more scrutiny, of course.
I’m looking for a data archive of corporation ownership networks. For example, Alphabet owns Google, … and some metadata like when they are created/owned by Alphabet if possible. I was made aware of OpenCorporates but it doesn’t seem to have such data as far as I tried....
I have a suspicion that it might depend on a few factors that might be related to Google’s ability to track, such as the browsers you use and whether you’re on VPN. I saw a post on Lemmy the other day (can’t remember where) that they suspect captcha is more annoying on Firefox, whereas fine with Chrominum-based browsers, esp Google Chrome. I think I sometimes experienced this as well, but I didn’t keep track.
I’m not very familiar with how Wikipedia vets the sources in the references/external links. I was wondering whether there are manual or automated checks for cyclic sources, for example a Wikipedia page cites a source for something, but such source after a few rounds of citing would go back to the same Wikipedia page....
I used to check the front page at least once every day, and occassionally check specific subreddits. Now I don’t look at reddit unless theres some drama, like mods getting purged, then I’d go there and enjoy the drama. Occasionally there will be questions that only reddit has the answer to so I have to reluctantly use it. I...
Yes, though to a much lesser extent than I used to. Sometimes it’s just through web searches that lead to Reddit, though I use Libreddit front-end for that.
And other times, it’s specific subreddits about TV shows. The level and frequency of discussion on Lemmy sadly is not there yet for popular shows, and nonexistent for niche shows.
Enshittification of GitHub?
First, they restricted code search without logging in so I’m using sourcegraphBut now, I cant even view discussions or wiki without logging in....
What would CaCl (Calcium Chloride) be? Is that possible? Is that a thing? Is calcium chloride a thing?

Does federation connect to a single lemmy network, or can there be multiple?

(Please see comments)Alternatives to Signal if they exit EU due to ending E2EE

Is it possible to have Wikipedia sources in a cycle?

Be honest, do you still use reddit?

Does discuss/discourse have federation?
First of, I’m not entirely sure they are the same to be honest, sometimes I see discuss.site-a.com while others it’s discourse.site-b.com?...
