jcarax, to linux in Looking for a "couch laptop"

You would be very very wrong, since I hardly use my phone.

But to your point, a soft keyboard is very different for conversational input that autocorrect and predictive typing excels at, and command entry and scripting where syntax is critical and you aren’t really typing in English or some other language.

jcarax, to linux in Looking for a "couch laptop"

Yeah, trying to use either a soft keyboard for that, or a tablet keyboard while lounging on the couch.

jcarax, to linux in Amazon Building its Own Linux-Based OS to Replace Android

Definitely not GNU, that’s even worse than calling it Linux. We should simply call it by it’s own name, Vega or whatever it ends up being. Android is Android. ChromeOS is ChromeOS. We can acknowledge they utilize the Linux kernel and some other open source code, and as such give some back. But they are not what we refer to as Linux, as that is a spirit as much as if not more than it is a collection of software.

jcarax, to linux in What distros have you tried and thought, "Nope, this one's not for me"?

It’s funny, I was really excited for Ubuntu when it first released, and actually quite enjoyed it. On the other hand, RPM distros seemed like an absolute mess, at that time. Now it’s the exact opposite. At least in regards to Fedora, it’s a very well thought out and maintained distro if you want things to just work, and Ubuntu makes me uncomfortable.

With a terminal being a core use for the machine?

Trust me, she’s judging you from beyond the grave.

jcarax, to food in Ultimate Nachos, first ever attempt!

Before anyone complains about radish, a lot of taco places in Tucson have sliced radishes at the salsa bar.

Man, I have a nice ribeye in the oven for a reverse sear, but now I just want nachos. Those look great!

jcarax, to linux in The Distro Wars are good actually.?

Ease and difficulty of installation are strengths and weaknesses, don’t sell yourself short.

jcarax, to news in Spotify spotted prepping a $19.99/mo 'Superpremium' service with lossless audio, AI playlists and more | TechCrunch

There’s way too much emphasis on a few songs from each artist that seem to make them more money, or are otherwise pushed by the record companies. AI or not, if it gets me deeper tracks in my daily mixes and artist radios, I’ll pay the extra for that and lossless.

jcarax, to linux in Preparing to move from Ubuntu to Fedora

I agree with this, Fedora is pretty boring. It’s polished and well thought out. Just wait a few weeks before upgrading to new versions, but that goes for pretty much everyone besides Debian stable.

jcarax, to food in Ultimate Nachos, first ever attempt!

Yeah, it’s a really nice alternate heat, that gets up more into your nostrils. I also like some nice sliced fermented carrots and jalapenos, fermented together gives a nice flavor melding.

This was definitely an eating ribeye, but I keep an eye out for inexpensive ribeyes that I slice up and freeze for cheese steaks, stir fry, tacos, etc.

jcarax, to food in Cheddara - jumped up leftovers or crime against carbonara?

Ha! It does look tasty, though. And I appreciate that you seem to be poking fun at abominations upon the carbonara name, with an abomination upon the carbonara name.

jcarax, to food in Are patented seeds of sweet seedless peppers from breedx.com GMO?

Like most things, the real problem behind GMO is greed. Creating rice strains that grow in impoverished areas, where little else will grow, is hard to see as a bad thing. We could be, and to some degree are, creating strains to solve world hunger, improve nutrition, improve durability of produce without sacrificing flavor. Tomatoes, I’m looking at you.

But so much of GMO is an effort to dominate the market, instead of to make the market better.

jcarax, to food in Andalusian olive oil cake

Do you have a preference for type of olive oil, you use for it? There’s so much variance in olive oil flavor profiles, and I tend to like more peppery varieties. But I imagine that might not be the best here, though with the anise and cinnamon… maybe it would.

jcarax, to linux in Looking for a "couch laptop"

Personally, I’m waiting to see how support for the M1 Macbook Air and Thinkpad X13s develop. I have a MBA already, so I’ll probably throw Asahi on it eventually, and then wait for the ARM wars of 2025.

I’m not at all a fan of the keyboard on the MBA, but being passive and 13" is perfect for the couch.
