How Do I Avoid Giving Home Address to Bank?

I’ve heard of things like iPostal and Traveling Mailbox. Do these services allow you to register with bank, DMV, IRS, Voting, etc? How do they work? Would a normal P.O box using its physical address from USPS work? I’ve tried researching it and haven’t gotten clear answers....

If you’re paying property taxes, you’re going to be in a database. At least here in Texas, all addresses (home, business, empty land) are in the county’s appraisal and tax database that’s publicly searchable.

jemikwa,

Right, and the data in Texas contains your address and name attached to it. It’s all public, you can’t avoid it. I don’t know about other states but I assume it’s the same

jemikwa,

You do have to add flathub to the discover store, but that’s a one time thing and you’re good afterwards

Not sure what temp and humidity levels a terrarium is expected to have, but Shelly makes a good device for monitoring both - www.shelly.com/en/…/shelly-h-and-t-white.
Or one with a screen (still smart) - www.shelly.com/en-us/…/shelly-h-and-t-gen3-1/
We use the latter in our bedroom which triggers the power outlet to a humidifier if it gets too dry when we’re sick.

What search engine do you recommend that isn't Google or Bing?

I’m still trying to de-Google my life, little by little. I don’t trust Bing for similar reasons. DDG is feeling shady of late. What’s the search engine you all recommend that I can inject into my daily life? Is there perhaps a search engine that is focused on code, or have we just all moved on to AI for searching?...

jemikwa,

Even better if you can get into a family plan with friends

jemikwa,

Robit, mimicking how Zoidberg calls Bender sometimes

jemikwa,

Also depends on the kid. I distinctly remember watching my dad play bg2 when I was 5ish, and then digging into it around 15/16 when I got a laptop for school. The gore and violence didn’t bother me, but not every kid is the same. I’d say it depends on what kind of media they already ingest.

If you use plogons (xivlauncher), you can use IINACT as the parsing plugin and either HUDkit for a separate overlay program, or LMeter (this fork that’s still maintained) for a plugin overlay. I use the latter perfectly fine on my Steam Deck and my Linux desktop

jemikwa,

Yep, it gives the same logs for uploading. It’s in a different directory, but all the same type of file. And the fflogs uploader is Linux compatible too

jemikwa,

My Nvidia card says no to Wayland+KDE :( incredibly laggy and unresponsive ui

Tandoor is good. A friend set up an instance with Authelia attached so my group of friends each gets a login. We add our fav recipes and can share them with each other.
It’s a little finicky with the ingredients entry, but it does make scaling recipes a lot better since it’ll do the calculations for you. You don’t need to know markdown to make the recipe pretty, it just works

My PC is hacked

I just received a call from an indian microsoft technician. He informed me that my PC is sending a ton of error messages to microsoft. Most likely it has been hacked, and he would help me by remoting in and fixing the problem for me. I just wonder… Is it my PopOs or my Manjaro PC that sends all this info to microsoft?
