jjlinux, to linux in Which distro in your opinion is the best for virtualization (Windows 10 on either KVM or VMware), stability, and speed?

Remember that Desktop and Server editions are very different in terms of stability. Ubuntu has got to be one of the, if not the, most widely used linux distros for servers, that’s where the money is really in for them, so it’s more deeply tested before release to the public at large, but in my experience, in the last decade or so, Ubuntu is painfully lacking on too many fronts in it’s desktop versions.

This has got to be 1 of the top 10 comments on “why Linux and not BSD?”

  • “Because I need to use some apps that only run in Windows.”
  • “Why not just use Windows?”
  • “Because (insert any excuse, valid or not)!”

It is, indeed, a funny time to be alive, haha!

Never mind. Sorry for the post. My brain seems to ignore anything that’s remotely attached to Apple and I completely missed the iOS part.

I do that with p≡p mail. Unified inboxes work like a charm, plus other nice features.

jjlinux, to opensource in If I create a OSS app with analytics to detect & log crashes with feature use, is it a bad practice?

As a user, if something like this was implemented in anything I use, as long as it’s opt-in (not opt-out), I would probably agree after I make sure I’m ok with the data I would be sharing.

Opt-out is always an instant “hell no” for me. It feels too much like a pusher.

jjlinux, to opensource in Do U know about any AI Web Search Engine?

Many search engines have an AI instance at the top of the results now. Take Brave Search for example.

It’s basically across all commercial search engines now.

Vivaldi does that crap too. I’m used to clicking the bar, and selecting from there. Vivaldi fucks it up by suddenly showing the “https://” part and shifting everything else to the right. So fucking annoying.

jjlinux, to degoogle in Google quietly updates Chrome’s incognito warning in wake of tracking lawsuit

This is about degoogling, so, why are you even bringing that up here? Isn’t the whole point of degoogling to NOT use Google crap?

Keep us posted on make and model. I sure as hell will try to get one myself and help you test the shit out of that jailbreak.

Not 1 person here has mentioned that it doesn’t work. Not 1 person here has said that the “feature” is useless or anything remotely similar.

What is in question here is the fucking pushing of companies to tie as many idiots as humanly possible to their subscriptions to keep on draining funds from them.

Give me the car for free, and maybe I’ll subscribe. Otherwise, I buy stuff with ALL it’s capabilities enabled or not at all.

My car is worth US$85,000 in my country. Everything works, app and all, and I don’t have to pay anything other than my loan, insurance, maintenance and charge (yes, it’s an electric vehicle).

I own a 2023 BYD Han, I have an account for the app, and I can do whatever it’s able to do from it without ever having to open my wallet again.

If and when they decide to make this a paid subscription, then I’ll sell that one, and move on.

So, yeah, follow a bullshit advertisement that you call a “tutorial” and believe what you want. They are just like drug pushers, only for tech.

Now who is the one making fucking noise without looking a things from a common sense perspective?

Another problem is that most manufacturers of laptops directed at the Linux crowd, for some reason I will never understand, insist on punching Nvidia hardware instead of AMD/ATI. How does that help?

jjlinux, to piracy in Prime is adding ads to their streaming service

This is one of many reasons why I’m selling my Kindle Paperwhite and getting a Pocketbook Ink Pad 3 Color. Amazon is the Apple of retail, which drips down to even the ebooks. I do, however, have to consider my wife’s comfort when ordering stuff, but otherwise, ready to pull the plug on Bezoz and his gang.
