There's still room for improvement, but Linux gaming has come a long way in a short time. (lemmy.world)

I remember when Proton launched it was like magic playing games like Doom and Nier Automata straight from the Linux Steam client with excellent performance. I do not miss the days of having the Windows version of Steam installed separately.

julianh,

You can use a launcher like Heroic to play games you have on gog or epic.

julianh,

Ok, since you’re the expert, what defines gender?

julianh,

I got the i3 version and performance is great for what I use it for (notes, programming, and web browsing). Gnome runs really smooth.

It gets recommended to me every so often. But the name makes it almost impossible to search for. It’s like a weird occasional blessing.

julianh,

On most distros you don’t need to restart to update. Mint will just put an icon on the taskbar when updates are ready, and you can even tell it to just do it in the background. No restarts or shutdown warnings.

julianh,

Yeah but no work has to be done during the restart, it’s just booting into the new kernel.

julianh,

Didn’t know morshu was on the supreme court.

julianh,

Bad example. If they proved P = NP, that might be more on par with the others.
