The people who don’t care and don’t have an adblocker aren’t and weren’t ever the target. The people who are being targeted have an adblocker, and they’re all moving to FireFox.
What Google is getting out of this most of all is future compliance as new users coming to Chrome will never know a world in which ad blockers were freely available on Chrome, as well as dog whistling this to other corporate browser vendors.
It’s not just a big step, it’s antithetical to the movements against domestic abuse, because it’s broadening it to mean “any relationship dysfunction that I feel like throwing in the barrel” which cheapens the term by watering it down unnecessarily.
I think it was in his biography that he said he dreamed of working at Cadburys, a famous British chocolate company. I’m not 100% if he explicitly and directly connects that back to CatCF though.
tbh, reading it as a British kid, I saw and interpreted lots of allusions to American culture and I think it was intentional. He always seemed a bit of an America- and Anglo-phile, and I definitely saw that in his gun slinging kids and used car salesman father’s amongst others.
