kungen,

Not saying that I disagree, but it has basically always been written like that…

kungen,

Why would you ever want to rename the file though? The extra tags are useful, eg for when searching matching subtitles or remembering quality without needing to check ffprobe.

kungen,

Yeah, but many European countries have moved to require registration of prepaid cards “to stop criminals” or something like that. So you can still usually buy them with cash and whatever, but you won’t be able to activate or use it until you confirm your identity.

kungen,

If you’re looking for more improvements, I’d recommend using a non-default SSH port and to include the destination IP in the rules.

kungen,

Aha, I think I misunderstood your situation then? I assumed you’re running these routing rules on your client machine, so you’re able to access your ssh server without it going over the VPN – not that your server is running a VPN active that blocks external connections…?

But if I didn’t misunderstand, I’d mean the (assumingly static) ssh server’s IP.

What can we do about major sites blocking VPN providers?

I use ProtonVPN for everything, and I’ve started noticing more and more sites simply blocking me if I try to connect to them through ProtonVPN. As much as it sucks, I’ve more or less become acclimated to having to deal with an increased number of captchas while using a VPN; but I’m pretty angry about being blocked...

kungen,

That’s an inherent problem with shared connections.

The thing with sites telling you that your login is incorrect is also sometimes intentional, so people trying to brute-force logins won’t realize they’re getting blocked or just that their attempt was incorrect.

And yes, the only possibility is to try a different server that hasn’t been abused, or run your own.

kungen,

My ISP uses CGNAT but I have a public static IP from them. 10+ years of heavy usage and not a single letter.

kungen,

You mean they got a shock letter that says “pay us, or we’ll take you to court”? Just throw that junk mail away.

kungen,

You can comply with the law whilst not having anything to provide the law. Such as Mullvad does.

kungen,

admitting that they might need to if they were forced to. That is extremely reasonable.

It’s not though? The reasonable result would be to simply shut down in that jurisdiction.

kungen,

Do they actually do that in the majority of cases, or just a few to scare people? Germany is really weird on IP law…

kungen,

It’s a public static IP, no one else is on it except for me :)

kungen,

What about people who are homeless because of drugs and alcohol? Is it morally justified to be codependent?

kungen, (edited )

I assume you just leave the keyring on your desk/in some drawer? I had handcuff keys on my normal ring and the pointy thing on the keys (for double-locking) made holes in my jeans, so you’d be crazy to go around with those for opening SIMs in your pocket.

kungen,

Yes, and vegans can also be cannibals for this same reason, as long as the person consents.

kungen,

It’s also common that we export our renewable electricity whilst still needing to import non-renewable energy.

kungen,

Menthol cigarettes just make it easier to get cancer than plain ones.

Were you a smoker, and did you ever smoke menthols? Menthols give a bit different feeling, but I wouldn’t say it’s that much “easier” to smoke.

The EU did the same thing to ban menthols a couple years ago, and yet I can still go to the store and buy cigarettes with menthol taste. These new fake-menthols surprisingly feel even smoother to smoke than classic menthols, but it’s still not a big difference compared to unflavored cigarettes IMO.

kungen,

Do you have a source for these claims? No one is smoking cigarettes for the taste, nor is “bad taste” a common reason for anyone to quit. Smoking is both a chemical addiction (nicotine and such) and a psychological habit (place and timing, having something in the mouth, forced breathing exercises, etc).

If we really wanted to hinder big tobacco, they’d start requiring producers to document all their ingredients, additives, and processing methods.
