lagomorphlecture, to asklemmy in What are some food items that cost less than what they "should"?

But when you think about it, beans should be cheaper than meat or something. Yeah a bag makes a whole bunch of beans but it’s straight ground to plate vs feeding a cow from birth. In fact relatively speaking of seems like the bean to cow cost ratio is out of proportion, the beans should be cheaper or the cow should be more.

Government cheese is called that for a reason. Anyways I totally agree with you but it’s interesting so I’m just providing a link for anyone who is interested in learning more.

Government cheese is a commodity cheese that was controlled by the US federal government from World War II to the early 1980s. Government cheese was created to maintain the price of dairy when dairy industry subsidies artificially increased the supply of milk and created a surplus of milk that was then converted into cheese, butter, or powdered milk. The cheese, along with the butter and dehydrated milk powder, was stored in over 150 warehouses across 35 states.

Except that my screen isn’t an OLED and I don’t want to leave the display on. It’s too distracting, it needs to be off especially at work. A little dot isn’t too intrusive as a notification.

lagomorphlecture, to asklemmy in What is a nifty little feature modern gadgets have lost?

Personally I would rather have the screen off a lot of times for various reasons. Why should i have to have the entire display on instead of having tge ability to just have a little notification light?

I wish there were smart phones with those little slide out keyboards like on some older phones, like a blackberry keyboard but slide out so it’s hidden unless you are actively wanting use it. And forward, back, play buttons for music and podcasts without having to eff around with the screen and unlocking and stuff.

lagomorphlecture, to asklemmy in Anyone else missing posts in smaller Lemmy communities because they are overshadowed by the popular ones?

I didn’t use that on Reddit but it seems like it would be more useful here since basically the same community can pop up multiple times on different instances.

Oooooh yeah people love their apple and I think you have your answer!

lagomorphlecture, to asklemmy in Does the reddit style format breed toxicity?

The only place on here that I’ve noticed downvotes is on comments that have been obviously social media shills (reddit or meta) or right wing type comments that are not the type of thing a community should support in my opinion. I’m not saying you’re doing either of those things and if you’re being downvoted in another context I don’t know why.

That said, downvotes shouldn’t really get you down. If you’ve said something awful then you deserve them and should reassess your outlook if you were unaware that your views or attitude were unpleasant. If you’re getting downvoted on a tech related thing then I don’t know what that’s all about but I would try not to worry about it too much because it doesn’t really affect your life, it’s just a fake internet down arrow.

lagomorphlecture, to asklemmy in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

I enjoy it but different people prefer different types of exercise and sometimes try the wrong one for them then give up. Some people really do love cardio, some feel amazing when they lift weights and get stronger, some prefer a group class or sport. If you’re doing something solo though I HIGHLY recommend adding in music or an audiobook or podcast, especially if you’re feeling like it isn’t for you. That can help if you’re getting bored. Then, switch it up. If you didn’t like the elliptical, try a weight lifting session. If the weights weren’t your cup of tea, try a yoga class or a free yoga video if you just want to try it at home without so much expense and commitment.

lagomorphlecture, to asklemmy in People who work in food service or customer service: What’s the dumbest thing a customer ever insisted was “the law” or “illegal”?

Ok that actually makes a lot of sense. Thank you!

lagomorphlecture, to asklemmy in People who work in food service or customer service: What’s the dumbest thing a customer ever insisted was “the law” or “illegal”?

Not really. They were told by their talking heads that they should be against masks but that doesn’t make sense. The powerful people need the votes right? We haven’t descended fully into fascism yet, just mostly…so why would they push that narrative knowing it would kill people who would vote for them? Was it a calculated risk to attempt to kill more of the other guys? I’m just confused about how that worked in their minds, and why they wouldn’t have looked for some other narrative that wouldn’t endanger their voters so much. I get that they don’t care about the people who cast the votes, but they do care about the votes.

I still can’t wrap my head around why certain political factions latched onto not wearing a mask as a political rallying cry. Like…why do you want to kill the people you need to vote for you? I can’t understand.
