lemann,

Same boat as you - most of my time is spent on subscribed, not /all

No need for me to block anything at the moment tbh…

lemann,

100% this is the best choice for op IMO.

A big pro is that they literally don’t need any Google services whatsoever by the sounds of things

lemann,

Adobe is the one company i’d never, ever, ever want to support, especially with a subscription. 🏴‍☠️ all day every day

lemann,

Of course its Admiral AAB 😭

Does safari have a reader mode you can use to bypass it? I use a FF extension that allows me to disable all scripts on a page when I come across junk like this.

Alternatively just chuck the link into Wayback or archive.is

Does Google still hold contact data after deleting from Google Contacts?

I am in the process of moving out some contacts from Google Contacts, specifically those that I do not have a Gmail address. It's a way for me to give these people a tiny bit more privacy, as I'm doing a cleanup of my contact list. My concern is that Google will still keep their data even after I delete it from my end. Is it so?...

lemann,

Not directly an answer to your question, but this is a really nice gesture. I’d appreciate it a ton personally

lemann,

Holy moly that is an absolute sh*t ton of ads!

lemann,

I delete them from the ssh config folder after installation, along with the DSA and ECDSA keys. No ed25519? No auth.

Also prevents a handful of bots from attempting SSH login into your cloud infra, a lot of them don’t support ed25519 kex

lemann,

Probably a good idea to look for a different client, call me tinfoil but I wouldn’t want to touch a very old mechanism that is supported/pushed by a very recognisable 3 letter agency

lemann,

Vegetarian ≠ Vegan (unless you actually mean vegetarian?)

lemann,

Not op, but nothing significant IMO unless you’re a web developer (in which case it’s worth considering using the dev edition instead) or just want the latest features.

The ESR on Debian gets updated reasonably frequently with backported security patches and bug fixes

lemann,

I don’t think debian even has support for snaps built in, unless I’m mistaken? Most ubuntu derivatives also rip them out lol

lemann,

It was all getting spoiled for me in social media anyway.

I thankfully haven’t seen any spoilers for anything since moving to Lemmy… on other sites it’s silly easy to accidentally run into a spoilers for anything remotely popular 😭

Unless you follow ST communities here… then oops I guess spoilers are in your feed for each episode 😳

lemann,

Do you get any output from # virsh list --all and # docker info?

I have a feeling it’s an SELinux issue, and i’m not familiar with how that works at all (yet 😳). May be a good call to purge virt-manager, libvirtd, docker, containerd, and reinstall them…

What are your experiences with polyamory, first or second hand?

I personally am in a phenomenally stable polyamorous relationship. I’ve been married to my wife for 12 years, and she has had the same boyfriend for about half of that time. It’s a really fulfilling arrangement for all of us in various ways. We’re all genuinely happy and satisfied. I’m kind of casually looking for a...

lemann,

I’m mono myself, but it’s nice to read various experiences here of poly relationships.

I personally think i’m too selfish to survive in a poly environment though, and also I’m not really that interesting of a person in general - preferring time alone mostly.

Poly requires a ton of trust and communication, so for me it would fall down quickly with the wrong kind of partner(s)… especially as it takes me a while to trust others

lemann, (edited )

I highly dislike Google.

However - their Calendar product is the only one that I like, and that’s mainly because it can be shared easily with contacts, accessed from multiple devices, and change sound profiles on my Android automatically depending on the event. I have yet to find enough downtime to try out replacements and alternatives

A lot of people who may have previously liked Google products may have also been burned by their habit of dropping things spontaneously… R.I.P. Google Hangouts and Google Now

Edit: Gmail is also fine, but I changed to a different app on my phone so I could log into other IMAP email accounts too

lemann,

I think any can be really.

A friend gives us validation, which could push us to do things we don’t want in some situations.

We can also be betrayed by a friend, and our outlook on life/perspectives shift into darker territory, particularly if you are isolated and stuff…

Someone you consider to be a friend may also not have your best interests at heart, or may have a completely wrong impression of you, and may not protect you from danger when you need it most.

Despite those, IMO friends are kind of essential from a mental health perspective - we’re social beings, isolation can bring out the worst in us. Whenever you come across someone that shares your values, keep them close 👍

lemann,

Is the hex file not saving with those editors, or is the game just not showing the new value once it’s loaded?

lemann,

Check out Pine64, however they only develop Arm and RISC-V devices, not x86.

petrescatraian, (edited ) to piracy
lemann,

All of what this person said!

I still use public trackers though, mainly because I want my seeds to actually benefit others, not fill up some arbitrary private tracker counter.

lemann,

They probably scan audio tracks uploaded to music sharing sites, a few online streaming services do this for video to identify accounts ripping the content.

If you’re doing it for personal use I see nothing to worry about

lemann,

Whoever designed that seems like they have something against transmission lol.

For me personally: it gets the job done, is allowed by most private trackers, fast and responsive, has a functional webui, and a very vast selection of third party apps (in addition to the cross platform first-party offering)

It’s simplicity is kind of its selling point. Only real criticism I have is that it’s unfortunate some of the supported features aren’t accessible in the first party apps, and especially from the lightweight web interface

lemann,

Interesting, from that data it seems SSD reliability so far isn’t too far off from HDDs (at least for Backblaze’s intensive cloud storage workload) despite having no moving parts…

Will be interesting to see how the reliability plays out as they build up their SSD inventory over the coming years
