I had no idea that you could download movies from the 90ies from archive.org (jeena.net)

I couldn’t find the Flintstones movie from 1994 anywhere but googling it I found it here archive.org/details/the-flintstones_202304 and you can either download it via torrent or directly. On top of it it says that the movie is CC0 which means Public Domain. But that can’t really be, it’s only 29 years old....

I switched to Osmand when my bike computer got stolen and tbf I prefer Osmand, especially with the widgets and stuff set up for the cycling profile

What killed it, well after reviewing some PS4 gameplay I noticed that it was having audio issues, like it would allow some sounds but not all. It was almost as if it was receiving a 5.1 audio output but was missing the centre channel. Even though the PS4 was set to stereo....

Seconded. I like having all my games in one place, on all my devices, with Linux support out-of-the-box thanks to Proton. Also, Steam DRM is easy to bypass with code available on GitHub if you really wanted to.

Epic does none of this for me, and I won’t support a company that called all gamers “shmucks” or whatever that C suite said

I even took the time to find way to backup my games so I can get legal ROMs too.

I have a FHDB PS2 and soooo many games to back up 😭 ughhh.

I have a few titles that I “backed up” 🏴‍☠️ already, but i’m not looking forward to ripping my physical disks… my PS1 library took the entire day and two cd drives, sadly most of those disks were partially unreadable

Ouch! Thankfully haven’t run into this issue… either the display adapter I use has a HDCP stripper inside, or my Linux install isn’t enforcing HDCP on my macbook

Built-in encryption in bcachefs sounds great, that’s the only thing that BTRFS has been missing for me so far.

Bonus points if it can be decrypted on boot like LUKS, and double bonus points if its scriptable like cryptsetup (retrieve key from hardware device, or network, or flash stick etc)

Yeppp this is what I currently do, and offers the best performance IMO compared to using something like gocryptfs in userspace on top of BTRFS. Pretty happy with it except a few small things…

It can be a bit of a faff to mount on a new machine if its file manager doesn’t support encrypted volumes natively ☹️. On your daily you can have it all sorted in your crypttab and fstab so it’s not an issue there

My main problem though is if it’s an external USB device you have encrypted with LUKS, the handles and devices stay there after an unexpected USB disconnect… so you can’t actually unmount or remount the dm-crypt device after that happens. Anytime you try, the kernel blocks you saying the device is busy - only fix i’m aware of is a reboot.

If the encryption is managed by the filesystem itself, one would probably assume this kind of mounting & unexpected disconnect scenario would be handled as gracefully as possible

Slippery slope IMO - also won’t do anything for criminals, they’ll just put on a mask or helmet.

The real fix is somewhere closer to more humans, not more tech

By paying for the app, you’re merely donating to FUTO. As Rossmann mentioned in his video, it is completely optional to pay.

There’s nothing wrong with any app being unprofitable IMO. Public transport and car infrastructure is unprofitable and we don’t have a problem with those… heck even my personal website is unprofitable, that’s about $200-300 a year being funnelled into something nobody uses or visits.

AFAICT, FUTO is comparable to organisations like NLNET - the same people at sponsor the Lemmy devs. The aim is generally not to fund projects forever, but to eventually open source them after they’ve been developed to the agreed level of functionality. Seeing as this app is mainly a Rossmann initiative there could be an exception here though - such as Rossmann donating his own money towards development.

I also can’t see too many workers staying unless they are passionate. Something isn’t adding up unless I’m wrong.

A lot of people who follow Rossmann are passionate about R2R, actually owning what you pay for, and not giving excessive control to monopolies like Google.

Grayjay is more along the lines of this spirit, and as soon as they have their DHT video hosting thing ready I’ll gladly donate some of my storage space towards it 👌

Grayjay can do this - there is a toggle in the settings for the YouTube addin to sync watch data with your Google account.
