limelight79, to piracy in Feeling the lack of moderation now Reddit?

I’ve moderated many online forums going waaaay back (farther than I’d like to admit actually). I agree with you, and I want to explain decisions to the users too, so I’ll generally try to talk them as well. And sometimes we get a connection, and sometimes I realize I made a mistake. But in my experience, when they start playing lawyer, you’re not going to please them.

I never thought about the four categories of mods before, but what you wrote feels pretty accurate. I think I’m in that first group, and I try to avoid issues by moderating as lightly as possible.

When I’m in other groups or communities, sometimes I think, “If someone did that in my group, they’d get one warning, then I’d just ban them the second time it happened. Boom. End of discussion.” But I know that’s likely not how it would go in reality. LOL

Dude has a good heart, that’s for sure. I hope Haier sees the light.

The “legal eagles” are best ignored. Just ignore them. Most of the time they’ll just stop if you ignore them, because they want you to argue with them.

Console television.

“I can’t help with dinner, the dog has his head on my lap.” “Well, sure, that’s fine, honey. I just made a cat move off my lap because at least ONE of us has to be responsible.”

Because they can’t find it? It’s tiny, it flew off into the distance…for all we know, there are a dozen science ships looking for it during the entire DS9 run.

It’s a huge universe, why would this particular entity have to show up in another episode? It could be off exploring the Gamma quadrant.

But season 7 was the last season of TNG. DS9 was busy with other things and Voyager was elsewhere.

limelight79, to linux in What's your favorite music player on Linux?

Very possible. I like how Jellyfin and Plex are like, “We’ll use your collection where it sits and try to figure out show name, season, and episode number from your filename convention!” And it mostly works.

Unfortunately when I installed Jellyfin, it put a lot of metadata in my /var partition, which was low on space. Oops on that one. So I had to shut down Jellyfin and delete the data until I get that situation resolved (that partition needs more space anyway).

Yeah why the fuck does everything have to organize your collections?

I use Darktable for editing pictures; I have my own organization system and do not need Darktable’s help with that…why does Darktable feel the need to be my collection organizer, too? (Because other photo editing programs do it, that’s why, and apparently some people do use that feature. I just don’t need it.)

I have a Wen metal shear tool…it’s AMAZING. Slices through sheet aluminum and steel like they’re butter.

My experience with Harbor Freight power tools is a (corded) circular saw that works extremely well. I put in a better blade, and it rocks. I’ve had it for years and it shows no signs of slowing down. I’m not a heavy user but I’ve used it for quite a few projects over the years, including an RV renovation I’m working on now.

DeWalt for drills, etc… I used to work in a hardware store (a small town store, not a Lowes/HD big box place) and sold DeWalt, so that’s what I gravitated toward when I was buying tools for myself.

But for yard tools, 40v Ryobi.

limelight79, to asklemmy in What is a nifty little feature modern gadgets have lost?

I was so frustrated when we switched to chip cards in the US, but did chip and signature, instead of chip and PIN like the rest of the world. WHY WHY WHY!?

limelight79, to asklemmy in What is a nifty little feature modern gadgets have lost?

I freaked someone out one time by pop-starting a stick shift car on a hill. He had no idea what I was doing.

My car, which is 24 years old, is a stick shift, but everything else we’ve owned since then is automatic.
