maiskanzler,

Neat, didn’t think of that!

maiskanzler,

I can really recommend those cards! They come in several sizes for laptop and desktop. I am not sure about USB. Just make sure you get the regular PCIe version and not the CNVio version (unless you have a compatible Intel Mainboard and somewhat recent processor). They differ in the naming, e.g. AX210/AX211 if I remember that right.

maiskanzler,

Gotta love notebooks and their weird and rarely wonderful Wifi-Chips attached via SDIO. Even the intel cards can have problems!

maiskanzler,

I’m fine with three! Tent, Flashlight and Camera. That way I’ll have the easiest way out by being the sidecharacter who gets murdered during the exposition before it all goes to shit.

Noticed a strange occurrence where my monitor buttons will not react to presses when certain conditions are met

I have an Acer XV340CKP monitor connected via Display Port to my GPU. I also have a old LG W2253TQ that I use as a secondary display. It only has a DVI and VGA port. I have a DVI-DVI cable together with a DVI-Display Port converter to connect to my GPU, which is an Asus RX6900XT. I am running Nobara 38....

maiskanzler, (edited )

Unlikely, but who knows? Can you try and boot Windows (install iso probably enough)? Or some very old Linux distro? It might just be your monitor becoming weird with age.

Edit: Alsobtry with a laptop or something and see how it goes.

maiskanzler,

The wiki page has a “History” segment and right below that… "In Fiction"💘🤠

maiskanzler,

IPFS is basically fancy torrents. Pieces of media are accessed by the hash of their content and some metadata. It's neat, because it can be linked as a URL/URI similar to stuff hosted on the regular web. But, and the main website doesn't really make that clear AT ALL, all content is only available for as long as there are people interested in it. You access a file and distribute it to others from then on. After a while, people move on and old data is deleted from their cache, etc. Unless you 'pin' a piece of content and STORE IT YOURSELF, there is no guarantee it will still be available even 5 minutes after you delete it from your device.

In short: The website makes it seem as if IPFS is this big black hole of infinite and immutable storage when it actually is highly fragile. It can be great if used correctly though, for example if instances decide to keep an archive of successful posts and thereby share the load of storage and distribution. But because every IPFS member is also a distributor, the same legal problems that arise from torrent use will rear their heads again. So better not watch movies or browse a sub with illegal bits if they are hosted on IPFS. IPFS is not built for privacy either, but that's a problem many p2p projects have.

maiskanzler,

Try Top Daily to see new stuff. The ranking will be fixed in a future release of lemmy to sink old but successful post to the bottom of the page and sprinkle in small community content as well.

maiskanzler,

I see, interesting perspective. I think it is somewhat natural to try and bring everything reddit-style over to lemmy right now because we all want this place to grow from the exodus at reddit. Having familiar content and communities is how we can make new members feel right at home. Over time we will properly split off and become our own thing tho.

maiskanzler,

Yeah I gotta say personally both sentences sound violent to me. They can absolutely be understood in both a violent and a window-smashing way, but the wording is so on the line that I too wouldn't want to see it in a community.

The meaning of what we say or write is not purely what is meant by the speaker/writer but also in large part what the audience or the person we speak to hears and understands. As the person saying something, we always have to be aware of how it may be understood or misunderstood. We all have different contexts, experiences and ways of communicating. All we can do is be as specific as possible to remove any uncertainty. Vague wording is how dog-whistling operates.

Maybe a better way of wording it would have been:

"if people start flying (...) flags on their cars in my country, they better watch out for their windows 'cause I'll be keeping a baseball bat in my car"
