mathemachristian,

The fact that you used the word twain while talking about what happened during a shit is amazing. Superb. No notes.

The opposite, I can at a glance tell how much time has passed and how much time I have left in a very visual way. The hands are a much easier way to interpret passage of time than some digits. And like the OP points out, it doesnt really matter if its 6:00 or 6:05, but I can see how much I’ve already procrastinated and how much I have left to do The Thing.

I’m genuinely suggesting this, it has made a difference for me.

mathemachristian,

Love me a big clock

mathemachristian,

get an analog watch/clock. It’s amazing. For real you don’t know what you’re missing until you have one

mathemachristian,

Oh don’t worry I’m suggesting this for important things, not work.

About Google and Degoogling in schools

Here in Italy, often schools, the educative relationship betwenn teachers and students is kept through google classroom. Once I’ve worked in a school that had both solutions: Moodle (the usability is very very scarce) and Google classroom. During the years I’ve developped an increasing grudge toward Google, because in the...

mathemachristian,

Could be that there is a law against storing data outside of the EU that might pertain to your school situation, so you might have a right violated. Though fighting that is quite a bit of work. You’d want to escalate things with your school first, but in order to do so be knowledgeable on the issue which requires a big time investment and in the end if your school doesn’t care they are probably gonna bet on you not seeking legal recourse. Which is such a ginormous amount of work they could be right depending on the resources you have.

That’s not to say its a battle not worth having, but its quite the battle if the school doesn’t care, because they can just stonewall and its up to you to overcome it.

As an alternative I unfortunately don’t know of any except a self hosted moodle solution which is a hefty amount of work for the school and might be reason enough for them to deflect or stonewall on the issue. So I wouldn’t go into that with them, let them do their own research on alternatives maybe they can come up with something since they have different resources and connections than you do.

mathemachristian,

Why not? It makes sense to me, it carried me through some very difficult times and is a good way to think about how I interact with the world and my moral framework.

I'm getting doxxed by a troll

I got doxxed by a troll on a forum , the troll posted my real full name and school including my grade level , pics of a Facebook account which the troll thinks it’s me but isn’t because I don’t have any mainstream socials. The troll keeps pasting my name and pics from the Facebook profile everywhere on the forum, what do I...

Israel's plan to "destroy" Gaza comes from "the highest level of state", the UN's top court has heard (www.bbc.co.uk)

The claims were made by South African lawyers as it presented its case accusing Israel of genocide at the International Court of Justice. Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, a lawyer for the High Court of South Africa, told the ICJ Israel’s “genocidal intent” was evident “from the way in which this military attack is being...

mathemachristian,

Maybe from the guy that said “remember what Amalek has done to you”?

If I remember correctly the idea was to not consume books “uncritically”. Whereas the globglogabgalab is just devouring books without examining what thoughts he is ingesting.

Also he has a navel and there are unfortunate implications to that.

At last the long lost brother of the globglogabgalab

mathemachristian,

Bulgur is really good. You can prepare a lot of kisir and eat it in portions

mathemachristian,

I mean the fact that you think the people of hexbear support the Russian Federation thinking its communist but then go on to say they have no nuance or political intelligence is kind of funny

mathemachristian,

There still is some google stuff in there, like for example phoning google servers to check internet connectivity among other stuff.

mathemachristian, (edited )

Right but the topic was about google’s data harvesting and what I meant was that you can’t just grab any AOSP distribution if you want to minimize that, you need to pick one that replaces the parts that send data to google. LineageOS for example still phones google for quite a number of services.

As far as “easy to remove” goes, I think that’s kind of debatable if you want to do it in a way that’s sustainable long term considering the effort that goes into e.g. GrapheneOS or DivestOS.

Edit: here is a list of the kind of stuff you need to watch out for if you want to minimize the data sent to google

mathemachristian,

Trump: “Build the wall”.

Biden: “Sure here are the permits and the 20 laws including environmental and indigenous rights acts blocking it will be suspended. Also the detention camps were a nice touch we’re keeping those.”

mathemachristian,

There was a point in time where first person video games couldn’t make their minds up and so games came with the option to have the y-axis inverted. Moving the mouse up would make the PC look down and vice versa.

mathemachristian,

“Deal with it. You need a job.”

WTAF? How can someone be so blase about their child being sexually harrassed?
