this fucking sucks. i am very disappointed that the protests lost steam and everything is just back to normal, swept under the rug. they showed their hand, acted like fucking dictators, and everyone is just like "welp thats it!" and gives the fuck up. it's just sad. it feels like 90% of the people who said they were in this were all just being performative.
so many of us dedicated a lot of time to the protests, left our communities, migrated, all for everyone to just go crawling back. i won't go back. i am staying on kbin. but man, it fucking sucks to see reddit face 0 consequences because Spez was right, "this will blow over"
well, i am from kbin and the people i have migrated are also on kbin, there has never been any confusion, it's made migration really easy. i have been told lemmy has intimidated and put off migrants by those migrants themselves. i think initially people should start on kbin, they will grow a natural understanding about federation and the fediverse, and from there they can choose if lemmy or others suits them more as a platform.
to me, it was surprising just how easy the fediverse was to understand if i stopped trying to think about it how i was taught to think by centralized platforms.
at first, i was really hesitant to migrate. i was confused by kbin, lemmy, mastodon, and especially the fediverse. i didn't think i could ever understand it. i wasn't confident in it. but, after a few hours of exploring, interacting, watching people talk about it and reading explanations, it clicked into place and suddenly made sense, a whole lotta sense. now, i am actually teaching others about what the fediverse is with little to no trouble and helping them migrate to kbin from reddit, and thats amazing. having tons of fun here! 👍
How else do you suggest bringing migration to their attention? I am a mod as well, I cannot see how someone politely asking if we are thinking about making a community on a diff platform can be perceived as pestering? It appears this is individual and not every mod will be annoyed and not every mod wont be annoyed.
edit: 10 people suggesting it to mods says "this is in higher demand than we thought, not just one random person's suggestion that we can ignore, we need to consider taking action or addressing this" Which is how changes happen. mods need to listen to their users, thats the responsibility they volunteered to take on. As a commenter said below me: "If you are getting annoyed because so many of your users want to migrate, maybe you should consider migrating instead of demonizing your users?"
well said. it also just makes me feel better in general contributing to kbin, because i am contributing to its growth and real conversations, and better yet, helping create a home here for other reddit migrants
thats crazy. im very active on here as my profile can tell and other than a run in with an alt right person on one thread, i havent seen anything bad. of course, as it gets more popular, this will increase, but for now its pretty nice
Yes, at this point, there is really no fucking saving it or hoping for changes, they will go as far as they need to go to get their profits back up. It must be abandoned. The only time I ever spend on reddit is to convince people to migrate to kbin or lemmy (nicely, dont be annoying)
