mlg, to linux in Nautilus File Manager Gets More Features Ahead of the GNOME 46 Release - 9to5Linux

My dude nautilus didn’t even have its own open in terminal button until 2022.

Everyone here forgetting that this makes it dense and not fluffy otherwise we’d have put literally everything conceivable into a waffle iron.

Not for every average Hollywood movie ever.

There’s so many acronyms for the source because of how many people independently rip, not even including cam rips.

Now if it’s some big gun software like cobalt strike, then sure yeah people definitely charge.

But Movie and TV pirating is so easy, people regularly make their own rips and torrents.

Remember when they found out the dudes behind piratebay were like 3-5 hacktivist friends who made it in their free time lol?

Also what illegal subscriptions. Do they really think people pirate content for it to be sold and not shared?

Is there any new p2p/decentral technology that is trying to advance beyond federation?

It would be cool to have a generic framework to make web resources that are inherently decentralized without the need for sponsor and hosting.

Like IPFS but as a social site. Everyone helps partially host content in exchange for access to all the content.

mlg, to linux in Thinking about making the big switch – recommend me a distro!
@mlg@lemmy.world avatar

Anything except Ubuntu and it’s direct downstreams

Fedora for my pick.

mlg, to linuxmemes in Look at that fragmentation!
@mlg@lemmy.world avatar

Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) which lets you basically run linux kernel along side the windows kernel which lets you do a lot of cool stuff like containers, linux apps, whole DEs, etc.

It was pretty cool for like 5 minutes until people realized that keeping windows around was kind of pointless and we should just be running pure linux lol.

It’s still a good feature, but it just gives you a direct comparison of linux vs windows which tends to outshine windows.

mlg, to linux in What's (are) the funniest/stupidest way(s) you've broken your linux setup?
@mlg@lemmy.world avatar

fstab bind mount for /home that I misspelled, so I couldn’t login as myself.

fstab external hdd mount that didn’t have ignore flag so PC would pop if I booted while unplugged

Accidentally booting windows after a year and it overwrite my EFI boot entry.

The best I’ve see however was an acquaintance who accidentally set perms to own user on /usr/bin

So everything went from root:root to user:user which removed all the SUID/SGID bits as well so a bunch of bins broke lol.

Believe it or not, it was actually fairly easy to fix with chmod and chown

mlg, to memes in But hey, at least everyone supports webp now.

Animated PNG actually does exist but it has poor support coverage.

I remember using it to make whatsapp animated stickers

I have an unholy combination of XFCE and Compiz lol.

mlg, to linux in "Must Try" distros and DEs?
@mlg@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah I’m surprised it doesn’t show up as much anymore despite being both a performant and highly customizable platform.

Lots of the effects aren’t available on other DEs, and the team behind has so far actually maintained all the plugins.

XFCE with Compiz as the compositor

Or just straight Compiz

Make sure you enable all the funny effects like the cube, cube animations, 3D windows, advanced window animations, transparency effects, sky box, etc.

All easy to do with compiz config manager.
