I have noticed that I interact a lot more in Lemmy than I ever did in any social media. Let it be Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter… I am used to be the lurker, but here for some reason things are different. Wonder if more people feel like I do.
I was quite active. But less and less as time goes on, sadly.
The content is drying up, the only really active communities are either tech or political, and my main interests either never left reddit or have a home elsewhere. The nail in the coffin for me will be when my instance dies, which is looking increasingly likely given that the admin is AWOL.
It’s ok here, but it’s too fragmented to be a full replacement for anything else.
Games publishers are in a war of attention and don’t want to compete with themselves. They won’t sell you an old game if they can get you hooked on the new version with microtransactions and DLC with no story and sub-par multiplayer.
The next point is just making the case for open source.
I’d like to see people give less of a shit what other men wear.
Fashion might be the most consumerist addiction we have in the world and fast fashion is wreaking terrible damage. Any creativity is lost to brand addiction and trend chasing. Don’t even get me started on advertising!
Clothes serve a utility, but fashion is the capitalisation of envy and materisalism. Wear monochrome if you want. Wear pink if you want. Just don’t kill the planet in the name of “fashion”.
As cool as it sounds, I remain sceptical of it’s viability. Oral insulin isn’t actually as good as injected because it is a slower method of getting into the system. Injected insulin doesn’t go into a vein, it’s under the skin where capillaries help distribute it faster. Oral insulin needs to pass the stomach, so can not enter the blood as fast. Being plant based is not really a factor for that.
In the trial on mice, the plant-based insulin was able to regulate blood sugar within 15 minutes, comparable to naturally secreted insulin. Mice treated with traditional insulin injections experienced crashing blood glucose levels leading to hypoglycemia.
This is kinda scaremongering. Improperly dosed insulin will always crash blood glucose. Plant insulin will have the same affect. 15 minutes in a mouse is probably a long time, given their size. 15 minutes is usually how long fast acting novorapid takes to start working, peaking at ~2hrs and lasting roughly 4hrs.
I’m not saying the findings aren’t useful or interesting, but there is always a level of hype around diabetes medicine. Expectations should be tempered.
Do you interact more in Lemmy?
