onlinepersona,

OAuth? Do you mean 2FA? OAuth just requires you to be able to open a URL so all you need a browser. (see the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OAuth#/media/File:Abstract-flow.png)

onlinepersona,

I haven’t encountered such a service that I cannot live without --> I don’t use it. To be honest, I can’t even remember such a service.

onlinepersona,

It BSOD’ed its last screen.

Fuck that OS.

onlinepersona,

I recognise those acronyms. They are from a bygone era my ancestors used to mention to me in hushed tones.

onlinepersona,

How long ago was this?

onlinepersona,

I’m not faulting linux, I’m faulting the Raspberry Pi Foundation. Linux is their main operating system and they haven’t picked a good WIFI hardware module for years. Dunno if the new raspberrypi 4 is better, but I’m not paying to find out.

onlinepersona,

I had similar problems at the time. It’s much better now.

onlinepersona,

Thanks. I’m out of the loop.

onlinepersona,

I’ve had 3 raspberry pis (1,2,3) and none have had stable WiFi. After an hour or two it would drop and the logs would get spammed with some error that I can’t remember. Might be this issue wlan freezes in raspberry pi 3/PiZeroW (Not 3B+) . Similar issue Every two hours, like clockwork: “wpa_supplicant[313]: nl80211: kernel reports: key addition failed”.

After that, I gave up on WiFi on Raspberries and used LAN, but they are so underpowered… my nextcloud instance took ages to do anything, XBMC (now Kodi) was slow and couldn’t render videos > 720p (it was struggling with 720p honestly), even a simple audio proxy over bluetooth (forward bluetooth audio from phone to speaker) barely functioned as the bluetooth cut out or it was janky as hell.

It’s easier to put a old phone as a server than a raspberrypi.

onlinepersona,

Not to defend Apple, but doesn’t windows 11 demand you buy new hardware for it to be installed? Something about a TPM?

onlinepersona,

No, but you can call yourself a gamer.

onlinepersona,

You will be welcomed back with open arms my (future) friend.

onlinepersona,

Fuck Bluetooth. I’ve seen it multiple times this week that wireless headphones have failed on Linux, Mac, and Windows. “Shit, let me reconnect my headphones”. Also the switching from “high quality audio” to bullshit mono audio when calling.

Fuck bluetooth.

onlinepersona,

That backup gets encrypted with your password

Maybe that’s a new feature? Does WhatsApp require a password when backing up now? Haven’t used it in a few years, but back when I had it, the backup to Google didn’t require anything besides your phone number and access the google drive on your account - it was only retrievable from WhatsApp and not visible on a Google Drive interface nor API.

onlinepersona,

awesome?

onlinepersona,
  1. It probably uses apks.
onlinepersona,

Why not move to NixOS?

onlinepersona,

Until the kernel updates to something unsupported and you find out that they don’t keep old kernels in the rolling release. An amazing experience.

onlinepersona, (edited )

Damn… that looks like a lot of work. Did you write your own theme?

onlinepersona,

I had it on two systems. Some peripherals stopped working after an update on one system and the attempt to downgrade it to the LTS (Leap?) failed miserably --> Ubuntu. On another one the graphics card stopped working and somehow forced it to the LTS with a custom kernel. That worked until trying to upgrade it by two minor releases (X.2 to X.4? Can’t remember if it was 13.Y 14.Y or 15.Y). There were so many conflicts and messing around with the source lists (or whatever they’re called)…

It was the most difficult system to update that I’ve ever had. YaST is great though. Best GUI for system configuration I’ve had so far.

onlinepersona,

Intruiging 🤔 There are something things like that which I’ve wanted to write for years!

onlinepersona,

I concur. Streaming isn’t an option for everybody. Paid services removing the option to download thus force all those people who can’t stream, to pirate. They create the problem and provide no legal solution 🤷

onlinepersona,

Renewal? Don’t they mean continuation?
