It doesn’t make you anonymous. Torrent protocol wasn’t designed with anonymity in mind and there are a million ways you’re going to leak your actual IP address....
I keeps getting brought up because TOR is the most popular anonymizing network. It’s not far-fetched to think “how can I make myself anonymous while torrenting?” search for “how to be anonymous online”, find TOR and put two and two together. It happens all the time, which is why the blog post by TOR was made about it.
Depends. It’s definitely smaller than TOR because people don’t know of it. It’s slower, but if you don’t need things on demand, have a seedbox or some way to torrent 24/7, things are quite acceptable.
So, gnome is an alternative desktop environment and it’s great that they exist. If they inspired Apple’s UI or the other way around, doesn’t matter but they are the Apple UI of Linux. Mac users switching to Linux can have a somewhat familiar experience.
That said, their “we know better than you what you want, luser” attitude makes it hard for me not to grin when someone rants about their stuff. It shouldn’t, because they are probably mostly unpaid contributors and their work should be valued, but once in a while…

If your IPS and the local authorities will not do anything if you download, upload and publish anything, what is the bare minimum of security measures you can do? Context: I live in Southamericas, here we have worse thing to deal with.

Hopefully they’ll build in support for disroot, fastmail, posteo, protonmail, tutanota, and other opensource encrypted mail agends that don’t provide a bridge.
Edit: so the summary of the video is “marketing”. Linux, KDE, and opensource projects in general need way better marketing. If Linux could rebrand itself as anything but “the geek thing”, I bet it would be much more successful.
Encrypted mail providers should require a bridge in order to be able to pull or send emails with. Protonmail has “Proton Bridge”, tutanota has nothing. I see now that disroot, fastmail and posteo have direct SMTP access 🤔 That leads me to question: what actually is encrypted? Direct SMTP and IMAP access probably means they can read your mail.
I’m not sure how accurate StatCounter is, given that most Linux users use adblockers. However, according to it, Linux has almost a 14% desktop share in India.
It’s a little puzzling to me that Linux isn’t popular in low-income countries. Why wouldn’t it be the OS of choice there? Do we need to become linux missionaries? I imagine it would be easier to convince people who can’t buy an iPhone to use FLOSS than those who can drive to an Apple Store and waddle over to get yet another one.
Linux holds more than 8% market share in India, and it's on the upward trend (sh.itjust.works)
