onlinepersona, to linux in A new pilot will investigate the use of Forgejo (A non profit FOSS alternative to github and gitea) in german schools

You’ll be able to (among other things) open a merge request from another instance. Gitlab and other source forges require you to create an account on each instance you want to contribute to.

onlinepersona, to piracy in Do you donate to FOSS projects?

After I got a good job, I started donating to FOSS projects. They have already proven to be useful, unlike other crowdfunded projects in the inception stage. My bill for software now exists for opensource software, whereas when Windows was my main OS, it was non-existent. I love the option to give money. That’s freedom.

Fuck closed source software.

How does it not compete with MS Paint 😅 What are you on about, mate?

onlinepersona, to linux in COSMIC: The Road to Alpha

I’m just happy there’s a rust DE being written in slint. KDE is nice and all, but it’s all C++. No way am I touching that trainwreck of a language again.

onlinepersona, (edited ) to linuxmemes in Hey, have you ever heard of Pop!_OS?

Not entirely the same. nix is a build-tool, package manager and DSL. NixOS is the OS built on top of that. nixlang.wiki explains it

onlinepersona, to opensource in Don't be that guy.

No. It’s provided without warranty nor guarantee that it’ll work or even leave your system intact. That’s the core of most opensource licenses. Dev owes nobody nothing.

onlinepersona, to linux in Happy new year of the Linux Desktop!

Think AI training. I might write a blurb somewhere that I can link to someday, but that’s the gist of it.

onlinepersona, to linux in Why do you use the terminal?

Because GUIs on linux don’t do everything that the CLI can. I use my computer for more than just browsing and editing documents, so the GUIs that do just that, don’t cut it.

Also, I’m on NixOS. There’s simply no way around the terminal - sadly.

onlinepersona, to linux in A Nautilus Sucks Donkeyballs Linux Rant

So, gnome is an alternative desktop environment and it’s great that they exist. If they inspired Apple’s UI or the other way around, doesn’t matter but they are the Apple UI of Linux. Mac users switching to Linux can have a somewhat familiar experience.

That said, their “we know better than you what you want, luser” attitude makes it hard for me not to grin when someone rants about their stuff. It shouldn’t, because they are probably mostly unpaid contributors and their work should be valued, but once in a while…

onlinepersona, to piracy in Visits to piracy websites have increased 12% in the past four years

I bet we’ll reach a point again where normal services are just so shit that piracy is normal again. Then they’ll try and take down even more things. Hopefully then we’ll decide to move operations to I2P.

Then the devs could be anonymous and the their repos couldn’t be taken down.

Being polite doesn’t mean being passive-aggressive. I can tell you that I completely disagree with your opinion without calling you “a brainless ape that should’ve fucking stayed in school because your dumb ass cannot comprehend the simplest matters”.

onlinepersona, to programmer_humor in Not mocking cobol devs but yall are severely underpaid for keeping fintech alive

Yeah man, it can’t be worse than JS, right?
