No. It’s provided without warranty nor guarantee that it’ll work or even leave your system intact. That’s the core of most opensource licenses. Dev owes nobody nothing.

opensource.builders looks nice, but has the code on github and the DB is a single JSON file. Editing requires running the thing locally and then creating a PR.
switching.software is a single page that lists all the software. Upside is that the code is codeberg, not github.
prism-break.org/en/ is focused on privacy, very out of date and code is on github.
Privacy Guides is also all about privacy, so it won’t be a generic alternative finder.
I stopped looking after that.

I’m actually curious what BSD provides in comparison to Linux. What does it add, do better, or worse?
The only thing I know is that they introduced some stuff way before linux did, but that’s simply due to the age. BSD jails for example have been around for a long time. Buy beyond that, it was never apparent to me why linux took off and BSD didn’t.

Because GUIs on linux don’t do everything that the CLI can. I use my computer for more than just browsing and editing documents, so the GUIs that do just that, don’t cut it.
Also, I’m on NixOS. There’s simply no way around the terminal - sadly.

I’m not faulting linux, I’m faulting the Raspberry Pi Foundation. Linux is their main operating system and they haven’t picked a good WIFI hardware module for years. Dunno if the new raspberrypi 4 is better, but I’m not paying to find out.

I concur. Streaming isn’t an option for everybody. Paid services removing the option to download thus force all those people who can’t stream, to pirate. They create the problem and provide no legal solution 🤷
You’ll be able to (among other things) open a merge request from another instance. Gitlab and other source forges require you to create an account on each instance you want to contribute to.
After I got a good job, I started donating to FOSS projects. They have already proven to be useful, unlike other crowdfunded projects in the inception stage. My bill for software now exists for opensource software, whereas when Windows was my main OS, it was non-existent. I love the option to give money. That’s freedom.
So, gnome is an alternative desktop environment and it’s great that they exist. If they inspired Apple’s UI or the other way around, doesn’t matter but they are the Apple UI of Linux. Mac users switching to Linux can have a somewhat familiar experience.
That said, their “we know better than you what you want, luser” attitude makes it hard for me not to grin when someone rants about their stuff. It shouldn’t, because they are probably mostly unpaid contributors and their work should be valued, but once in a while…

Depends. It’s definitely smaller than TOR because people don’t know of it. It’s slower, but if you don’t need things on demand, have a seedbox or some way to torrent 24/7, things are quite acceptable.
