otter,

Which generation leaves them open/closed?

I havenā€™t noticed a pattern, but I also havenā€™t really explored

otter,

When I start up, I right click on a folder and ā€œopen all in new tabsā€

Then shift click to pin them again. Makes it easier to restart when I need to

otter,

Interesting

I think my whole family uses few tabs. For me, once I canā€™t read the titles easily, I start splitting them into separate windows and virtual desktops. Once I finish a task associated with a window I close it

Itā€™s so nice when I can restart the browser clean

otter,

I guess this isnā€™t necessarily good, but itā€™s a bit of a fun story?

otter,

Looks like they tried to get rid of it 10 years ago then brought it back

People pirate Photoshop, isnā€™t that subscription based?

Iā€™m not familiar with clip studio paint

otter,

See the pinned post in !communityPromo for some tips on finding communities. If there isnā€™t one that fits, this is probably the best instance for you to make that community

otter,

What are some good alternatives to each Adobe product?

Someone on here mentioned Affinity for the Photoshop/design world

Nitro & PDFxchange for the PDF side?

I have a few friends and family on Signal. Pretty much everyone uses other services too (including myself) but Signal is installed on a few

  • I talk to some friends / family on Signal exclusively. They either already cared about it, or theyā€™re close enough that they trust my recommendation / still donā€™t care but want to put in the effort
  • I talk to some friends / family on Signal only when we want to have a more private conversation
  • Some people wonā€™t ever be convinced, I talk to them on other services or in person when privacy is important. I set up boundaries to protect myself, and people usually respect that.

This way I protect myself while respecting other peopleā€™s choices.

For you Iā€™d recommend focussing on the second option. When you need to talk privately, ask the person to install it and give a short explanation for why itā€™s better. If they do, then great itā€™s installed and itā€™ll get used once in a while. Maybe they will see other people and build up the network. If they donā€™t install it, then suggest an alternative like talking in person

otter,

Something Iā€™m also curious about (because of monopolies, we have the most expensive data in the world in Canada), how much does mobile data cost where you are? How much have you spent in total based on your usage?

I assume people have different habits in different parts of the world based on data prices

otter,

You have 26 more years to invest in some cleanup kits

Oh also @Thisfox

Instead of Telegram, consider one of these, itā€™s easier to switch to the good one now than to try and switch again later.

Signal works great for my family

Also it does leave out some info, I edited my comment up top

Thatā€™s fair enough, itā€™s really location based. Around where I am, telegram isnā€™t that popular. Iā€™ve met a few people using Signal and I have friends/collegues pop up in the ā€œ____ has Signalā€ section of the app.

We donā€™t really have a dominant chat app around here, thereā€™s a good mix of messenger/instagram/iMessage, with some groups sticking to Whatsapp/WeChat/Viber.

I am trying to find a simple evidence-based way to encourage my family to change their minds, but it appears it will only make me look paranoid

I think part of it is because itā€™s hard to convince people without first explaining how things work. Not much use in worrying about it if you canā€™t, just look out for yourself. What you COULD do is to use the private option when you need to talk about something sensitive. If the app is installed on their phone then theyā€™re more likely to use it, and even if not then youā€™re looking out for yourself
