Hello friend

pastermil,

At my company, we use ubuntu for the simple reason that our servers are running it.

pastermil,

Usually when you have multiple DEs installed, the login manager would let you choose.

Just need to make sure the autologin don’t get in the way of your choice (e.g. select it thru autologin or disable it completely).

I read that as “Distro for Piece of Shit”. I was going to say, if you dont like them, install Gentoo.

Or even better: Linux From Scratch, or busybox buildroot

pastermil,

It seems to still require LLVM, tho

pastermil,

Now if only gccrs would mature soon!

LLVM-based is fine for most case, but I bet a lot of people would want to stick with gcc for compiling the kernel.

What is the least shit online store of the shitty ones? such as: Wish, AliExpress, etc..

What is the least shitty shit store? Never had a good experience with any of the shops such as, wish, aliexpress and the rest of em. But which one of them is considered the better one, or more likely to actually arrive with the correct item? Is etsy considered better than the rest? Are there any of these “low priced” stores...

pastermil,

Computer parts from aliexpress is alright…

I hope someday we'll find a way to pirated a car (lemmy.world)

In the end, the KIA car company made its cars into subscription models, I really hate this because in the end the car we buy with our own money doesn’t feel like it belongs to us. Should we finally buy an old school car ? so as not to be affected by this subscription models or is there a way to crack the software installed in...

pastermil,

I think the mid-2010s models should be bullshit-free while having most of the modern features (e.g. fuel efficiency)

pastermil,

We’re talking about now 🙄

pastermil,

The comment you’re replying says to buy older cars so we’re not buying the new cars, hence decreasing the demand.

TIFU by rebooting before rebuilding my initfs

I had a super fast but small SSD and didn’t know what to do with it, so I was playing with caching slow spinning LVM drives. It worked pretty good, but I got interrupted and came back a few weeks later to upgrade the OS. I forgot about the caching LVM, updated the packages in preparation for the OS upgrade, then rebooted. The...

pastermil,

But don’t you need a wired network connection for this to actually work?

pastermil,

A Gentoo LiveUSB and some chroot would save your day!

pastermil,

That is true… Phone ecosystem sucks for this reason.

Sadly, I cannot buy you a T420 without having you (and your cartel operation) being exposed.

pastermil,

I’m running coreboot on my machine. What’s your excuse?

pastermil,

That’s not an excuse. Go get yourself a T420!

pastermil, (edited )

Oh man, I’ve been eyeing that for a while! I’m hoping they can get that out of the way soon!
