quackers,

Yeah no, generally you just copypaste the software website’s instructions. Many programs can be installed through the app store (or equivalent install commands) but a lot of aoftware you just gotta copypaste the code. Many also just provide an inataller.
The meme about linux software being much easier to install is true in some cases, but mostly bullshit. even if its just sudo apt install vlc you generally still want to check the website to make sure its the best way, or you end ip with an out of date version.

Updating software on linux is better pretty much automatic without annoying popups most of the time though.

quackers,

Yeah, well, linux is great, but people seem to rarely give the full disclaimer. So people end up disappointed, go back to windows and end up thinking you need to be hackerman to be able to use it. Or they do end up learning everything, think they’re hackerman and tell everyone in the world how linux is just sooo much better and easier because theyve been using it since 1969 or whatever.

My view: Your grandma could comfortably work on linux. It’s when you need stuff beyond the most basic aoftware that there’s a much steeper learning curve than windows. You fuck up, your system implodes. Once you’re balls deep into computers, lets say software development, linux becomes easier and more useful again. Its that middle group of average users who have the hardest time.

quackers,

it’s not a fair comparison, in the sense that the religions people tens to not believe in are those with disputable claims in a book dictated by god.
Caims such as simulation theory or unspecified god without evidence for or against it make way more sense than major deistic religions. And again, that’s not to say it’s true, its just significantly more likely to be accurate.

Do Israeli Politicians' adult children get conscripted just like the average adult Israeli citizen as part of mandatory service?

I was just reading about how a current Israeli war minister’s son died in combat and it made me wonder that if Israeli’s politicians who make these decisions know their family will be affected by it personally and directly, does that lend towards the suggestion that it is more likely they are making genuinely ethically and...

quackers,

There is only a racial implication if you look deep into it or your brain is wired to see everything as racist.

quackers,

Or maybe if you see racism everywhere, you’re the problem.
A big part of the problem that the average person has in relation to race is that they constantly need to be aware of it as to not offend someone who looks to deep into it, and usually isn’t even part of the race that’s supposedly offended. This constant awareness tends of lead to people forming actual opinions about race.

If your opinion is that jews should not be criticized because they happen to be jews, and you say that as a deflection from the actual argument, you now created someone who has more dislike towards jews because their race is used as a shield from criticism.

And just to clarify, both perspective are stupid, but if you look at how right wing racists think, this is a big part of it.

quackers,

I have to assume the essence of my point still stands without clarification.

quackers,

We still have freedom of speech, for now. While the brainlets on twitter and other social media censor eachother, we can still say and think whatever we want. Its just that people are pushed by it into one of several dumbass corners that many ideas appear lost. Luckily, platforms like lemmy emerge to hopefully counter some of that effect.

quackers,

yeah but having a less restricted space is ideal for exploring fresh ideas. if you have a platform trying to do specifically that, i think you also end up with extremism. Im not saying lemmy is the perfect platform, but the decentralized nature of it is potentially a way to a more free platform. Mainly because advertisers dont get to fuck it up.

quackers,

How so?

quackers,

because how tf am i gonna install internet drivers without internet.

quackers,

Well sure, but if i have to figure out what to get, where to get it, how to install a driver from a tar.gz file, maybe i just install ubuntu instead.
I opted for fedora instead, until it died on an nvidia update (as every distro inevitably seems to do with me) and fucked off back to windows. Linux desktop has not treated me well so far in any case.

quackers,

yes, but i cant do that without internet is the point

quackers,

This is indeed pulled out of the ass. The origin of the word ‘yeet’ is meme from vine. It did get added to several big boy dictionaries. There is speculation that the word was used regionally in the 2000s.

Now a bunch of people think it has some latin origin because it sounds convincing while a quick google search (or AI because, 2023) debunks the claim.

It is a fun word though, i enjoy using it. :3

quackers,

This post is retarded but there is a nice middleground that works well for us europeans as well. There are more options than the extremes.

quackers,

There is no case. this is just TOS violation with a hosting company.

quackers,

hetzner is a large hosting company in germany.
