Satellite GPS Messenger

My mom got me the spot gen 4 for Christmas. Im out in the middle of nowhere a lot of the time and am interested in having it for emergencies or communicating when I have no signal however I am not a fan of being tracked on the go. Is there anything to be concerned of with these type of products? Id say yes but I cant find...

I haven't used a SPOT for ten years, but at that time they were pretty limited in their comms. They weren't on if I didn't want them to be on, and even when in and supposedly with service, were flaky. Now, I use an InReach. It has more functionality than the devices in the past, but the connection isn't really any better. All of these devices were owned and managed under government contracts but I don't think they would be any different. I have never used them to track myself as I go, I use different equipment for that.

Long story short, you'll worry more about getting service when you need than you will about being tracked when you don't want to be. A tree canopy or tall canyon can prevent comms.

This stinks in general. I was a high school student 20+years ago, and I worked at a high school doing non teaching stuff (like spring break trips and after school programming) thru 2019, and the prevalency of drugs didn't change. The only conversation change was vaping. From my view point, having been a rural student, and having worked in rural schools, they're gonna experiment! Kids need safe folks to talk to. This applies to more than drugs but definitely applies to TX.

I don't have anything to add to this post, but am curious about the etymology here. I have never seen a sea lion, don't they just laze around on rocks?

I just took a quick look at All Sides. How does it compare to Media Bias/Fact Check? I don't know how to "fact check" either one of these sources but that's what I have to do so.

I've seen this mute mentioned, but never had it work. Is it for real? Every place has these ads now 😐 I don't get fuel on my personal vehicle very much much but I drove a lot for work and it is awful.

Well I tried this later yesterday on a brand new as of August fuel station, and it worked!

My understanding has always been that the fortified grains have been treated so because they stripped out the nutrients earlier, like with bleached flour. I don't buy these products but I very well could be misinformed.

Does that wash off? And I always thought (arsenic) was a regional issue. I think from rice grown in SE Asia?

I don't know how petty you want us to be, but here is my list (some of which has been stated)

  • shoe laces
  • reusable water bottle
  • sunglasses
  • wrist watch

I thought about listing food, and things to eat it on/with, but that would be too much haha. I do use these things daily tho...

As soon as I heard about the source of ignition I thought about a similar catastrophe that happened in the USA about twenty years ago. This is terrible, but it is probably good to share it widely and in as many languages as possible. I am not sure of the best words, but it would be good to help this tragedy save others.
