rockandsock,

I never hear anyone else mention This Life but it’s definitely on my short list of best shows ever.

I’m sure it’s in music license hell. They had so much great music on the show that helped the tone of the show but would be ludicrously expensive to license for streaming.

rockandsock,

Mad Men and The Wire in a photo finish. I have trouble choosing one over the other.

rockandsock,

You’re not stupid. Losing a close friend is a really tough thing and not something you just shrug off.

Sorry for your loss. Don’t let internet assholes make you feel bad for having feelings.

rockandsock,

Pringles are a nice occasional change of pace from regular potato chips.

rockandsock,

Bejor being space Alabama actually makes a lot of sense.

rockandsock,

I have a couple of traditional watches that I occasionally wear and don’t own a smart watch because I don’t need another thing to worry about keeping charged.

How do y'all deal with programs not supported on Linux?

I’ve been seeing all these posts about Linux lately, and looking at them, I can honestly see the appeal. I’d love having so much autonomy over the OS I use, and customize it however I like, even having so many options to choose from when it comes to distros. The only thing holding me back, however, is incompatibility issues....

rockandsock,

One of my computers has windows on one of the ssds because I have to use windows for work software once every week or so for about 20-30 minutes and there are a few other windows programs that I need to use occasionally.

Basically I use Windows for a couple of hours a month and Linux the rest of the time.

rockandsock,

Babylon 5 had the Psi Corps, a branch of the military that was made up of people with telepathic powers. I’m guessing that’s what you’re remembering.

rockandsock,

The sycophants angrily questioning why I want to do something my own way on the equipment I paid for was the most bizarro world thing, I ended up getting rid of that Mac in large part because of that type of attitude on the forums.

What hobbies help you minimize or avoid navigating commercialism?

By commercialism, I’m aiming at a mix of spending a lot and sifting through bloated business models (e.g. this or that accessory/equipment, microtransactions, etc.). Feel like many can relate to this sort of commercial fatigue, and yet it creeps even into hobbies where one tries to unwind....

rockandsock,

Landscape photography. Do it while you are on your hike.

rockandsock,

The traditional 24 hour marathon of A Christmas Story is worth the jail time.

She said the costume was very noisy and that it made embarrassing vinyl squeak noises every time she moved.

More awkward than fun according to her interview on a podcast I listened to years ago. Don’t remember which podcast but I don’t think she’s been on a lot of them so it shouldn’t be super difficult to to find.
