We don’t have tv anymore since around 2000, before we just watched VH-1’n’stuff, not because “it’s all so bad for the kids” - it is, but that wasn’t the main reason, it’s just shit) we watched SpongeBob over Internet with our (at that time) little daughter in English, not our native tongue german, she had an easy entry into studying internationally because she just spoke English almost better than German. She told me once she even dreams in English most of the time, so we speak our own little germish/engleutsch mix during the day here, it’s partially more efficient to communicate that way (including some family neologisms)

sagrotan, to asklemmy in As an adult, what seemingly childish things do you get excited about?
@sagrotan@lemmy.world avatar

I adore mechanical stuff that looks too complicated to comprehend on the first look, old sewing machines, old typewriters, mechanical calculators, knitting machines, clocks and watches, marble tracks etc. I was abysmal in school math, today I’m collecting old mechanical and electronic calculators and slide rules (and use them & show 'em to the kids at schools) Scales and maps are another obsession. Maybe because we were too poor for mechanical toys like Meccano or better Lego technic when I was a kid? Btw I loved the sesame street episode with the what-happens-next-machine as a very young kid. Then again, my wife says I have mild ADHD or something in that direction, idk.

sagrotan, to asklemmy in Why is *all* of Lemmy filled with Anti Israel content?

I had a look into it and have to say: you got a point. OP still has to learn some things, but where’s life there is hope.

sagrotan, to asklemmy in Does anyone know what a genome destabilizer is?
@sagrotan@lemmy.world avatar

My father. I am the lucky one, but, oh boy, my siblings and half-siblings and all the branches he founded all over the world - uh weee…

sagrotan, to asklemmy in Former religious lemmings, what made you quit religion or stop being a believer?
@sagrotan@lemmy.world avatar

God sends a Prophet to start a religion. The devil follows right behind to organize it.

Don’t get it. Just drive over there, it’s not that there’s a border of some sorts. About 2 hours on the Autobahn from here (no speed limit btw, could crank my shit box to 166mph if I want it to die soon)

sagrotan, to asklemmy in Be honest: if you had the power to stop time, your morals would go out the window.
@sagrotan@lemmy.world avatar

People don’t need super powers for that, it’s so easy. Crack open the way for the ego drug and they do anything. Nobody is immune. The “holier” the person, the easier it is.

You don’t have to put it in quotes, if anyone was evil then people like that.

I tried my whole life to get up early, one day I just gave up. Started my own company, bought a house - now I live and work like nature made me. No, I wear clothes, it’s just the sleep. Btw it’s interesting when you’re hiring how many people are like that and love the hours. I can recommend that to every night person.

sagrotan, to asklemmy in What was the last dumb phone you had before your first smartphone?
@sagrotan@lemmy.world avatar

That’s what I thought back then… I believe. Everyone had a green or orange display, I was the young rebel I was back in the day ;)

@sagrotan@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t know, the last one was maybe a Motorola clamshell, but from the “old” ones I had a Bosch GSM909, yes, they made phones. Barely usable and horribly expensive to use. But it had a blue 2 line display. A BLUE DISPLAY. Woooooow.
